Each year we honor the men celebrating jubilees who have dedicated themselves to serving the Lord through his Catholic Church. They often wear many hats, such as administrator, maintenance man, cook, accountant, friend. They have served mostly as parish priests, with some also serving as teachers, chaplains and counselors. The Catholic New World congratulates and thanks them.

50th Anniversary

Father Ronald Anglim 76, was born in Chicago and at-tended St. Paul and St. Ethelreda schools, St. Ignatius College Prep, Quigley Preparatory Seminary and St. Mary of the Lake Seminary. He was associate pastor at St. Giles, Oak Park (1965-1969); St. Francis Borgia (1969-1974); St. Barbara (1974-1979); and Our Lady of the Ridge, Chicago Ridge (1979-1981). He was pastor of Holy Family (1981-1991); St. Joseph, Libertyville (1991-1997); and St. Peter, Antioch (1997-2009). He also worked with the permanent diaconate classes from 1982-1985.

Father Harold Bonin 76, was born in Chicago and at-tended Mary Queen of Heaven School, Quigley Preparatory Seminary and St. Mary of the Lake Seminary. He also has a master’s degree in voice from the American Conservatory of Music. He served at St. Bene-dict (1965-1967) and taught at Quigley North (1967-1978) while residing at Sacred Heart (Oakley Avenue), St. Agatha and Queen of Angels. He was associate pastor at Our Lady of the Brook, Northbrook (1978-1979); and Our Lady of Lourdes (Ashland Avenue) (1979-1983); before being named pastor of Immaculate Conception (88th Street) (1983-1990) and St. Jerome (1990-1999). He was associate pastor at St. Mary, Buffalo Grove (2001-2003) before being named pastor of St. Ansgar, Hanover Park (2003-2007). He served as associate pastor at St. Joseph, Summit (2007-2009) before retiring.

Father Gerard Broccolo 75, was born in Chicago and at-tended St. Peter Canisius School, Quigley Preparatory Seminary, St. Mary of the Lake Seminary and North American College in Rome. He served at St. James, Highwood (1965-1966); on the faculty of St. Mary of the Lake Seminary (1968-1973); at St. Martha, Morton Grove (1973-1979); in the Office for Divine Worship (1968-1980); as pastor of Ascension, Oak Park (1980-1982); and at St. James, Arlington Heights (1985-1991). He served in leadership positions in Catholic health care systems in Pittsburgh and Denver. He also was a resource for ministry formation for the Office of Personnel Services, and has served as a consultant on liturgy. He retired in 2006.

Father John W. Dewes 76, was born in Chicago and attended St. Thomas Aquinas School, Quigley Preparatory Seminary and St. Mary of the Lake Seminary. He served at Our Lady of Hope, Rosemont (1965-1972); St. Raymond de Penafort, Mount Prospect (1972-1979); Immaculate Conception, Highland Park (1979-1985); St. Hubert, Hoffman Estates (1985-1989); and St. Anne, Barrington (1989-2009).

Father Gerard Egan 84, was born in Chicago and attended St. Gertrude School, Loyola Academy, Loyola University Chicago and St. Mary of the Lake Seminary. He earned a master’s degree and a doctorate in psychology at Loyola University and has been on faculty there since 1969.

Father John Farry 75, was born in New York. His family moved to Chicago when he was a child and he attended St. Sabina, Quigley Preparatory Seminary and St. Mary of the Lake Seminary. He ministered at St. Bernard (1965-1969, 1975-1987); as coordinator of the Englewood Catholic Community (1969-1975); as pastor of St. Thomas the Apostle (1988-2000); associate pastor at Holy Name Cathedral (2000-2001); and pastor of St. Andrew Parish (2001-2009).

Father Francis Q. Kub 75, was born in Chicago and at-tended St. Christina School, Quigley Preparatory Seminary and St. Mary of the Lake Seminary. He served as assistant pastor and administrator of St. John de la Salle (1965-1968); associate pastor of St. Juliana (1968-1973) and Holy Ghost, South Holland (1973-1977); associate pastor and administrator of St. Peter, Antioch (1977-1984); associate pastor of St. Bede, Ingleside (1984-1988) and pastor of St. Simon (1988-2010). He has served as associate vicar for canonical services since 2010. He celebrated his anniversary April 18 at St. Simon.

Father Robert Mair 75, was born in Chicago and attended St. Justin Martyr School, Quigley Preparatory Seminary, and St. Mary of the Lake Seminary. He served as associate pastor at St. Nicholas, Evanston (1965-1971); St. Joseph, Wilmette (1971-1977); and St. Peter, Skokie (1977-1985). He was associate pastor (1985-1987) and pastor (1987-2000) of St. Mary of the Lake and associate pastor (2000-2002) and pastor (2002-2009) of St. Catherine Laboure, Glenview. He has been pastor emeritus there since retiring in 2009. He also served on the Priest Placement Board and the Priest Retirement and Mutual Aid Association. He celebrated his anniversary May 2 with classmate Father James Murphy at St. Catherine Laboure Parish in Glenview, where both are pastors emeriti.

Father Edward McKenna 75, was born in Chicago and at-tended St. Dorothy and St. Philip Neri schools, Quigley Preparatory Seminary and St. Mary of the Lake Seminary. He was associate pastor at St. Thomas Aquinas (1965-1971) and St. Bridget (1971-1976) and served as chaplain at Mary-haven while at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Glenview (1976-1980). He was associate pastor at St. Paul (1980-1985) and Simeon, Bellwood (1985-1990) before becoming resident chaplain at St. James Hospital, Olympia Fields (1990-2013). He has been a contributing writer to Commonweal and Worship, was editor of Collegeville Liturgical Press in 1990. He is an accomplished violinist who has studied music at the University of Chicago and in Paris, and has composed operas, concertos and a concert anthem in honor of Cardinal George. He celebrated his anniversary with his class at Mundelein in April.

Father James Murphy 76, attended Quigley Preparatory Seminary and St. Mary of the Lake Seminary. He ministered at Our Lady of Lourdes (1965-1967); St. James, Sauk Village (1967-1973); St. Mary, Des Plaines (1973-1978); St. Raymond de Penafort, Mount Prospect (1978-1983); St. Catherine Laboure, Glenview (1983-2002); sabbatical and Queen of the Rosary, Elk Grove Village (2002-2003); St. Barbara, Brookfield (2003-2009); and assists at five parishes since retirement in 2009. He was director of the Chicago Marriage Encounter for 10 years and part of the Chicago Cursillo for 47 years. He celebrated his anniversary May 2 with classmate Father Robert Mair at St. Catherine Laboure Parish in Glenview, where both are pastors emeriti.

Father William Vanecko 75, was born in Chicago and attended Christ the King School, Quigley Preparatory Seminary and St. Mary of the Lake Seminary. He was associate pastor of St. Thomas the Apostle (1965-1971) and Visitation (1971-1983) and pastor of St. Benedict, Blue Island (1983-1995) and St. Kilian (1995-2010). He has resided at St. Columbanus since retiring in 2010. He also served on the Catholic Charities board, in interfaith and ecumenical relations, on the Priests’ Senate and on the Priests’ Placement Board. He celebrated his anniversary with family at Queen of All Saints.

25th Anniversary

Father Thomas Baldonieri 51, was born in Chicago and attended St. Andrew School, Quigley North, Loyola University Chicago, and the University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary, and pursued additional studies in systematic theology. He was associate pastor at Ascension, Oak Park (1990-1995); St. Francis/Our Lady of the Angels (1995-1996); St. Tarcissus (1996-2002); and St. Raymond de Penafort, Mount Prospect. He has been pastor of St. James, Highwood since 2007. He also served as adjunct formation faculty at Quigley Preparatory Seminary (1992-2007) and as a presider of Sunday Mass at Mercy Home for Boys and Girls (1992-present). He celebrated his anniversary at the 5:30 p.m. Mass May 23 and the 11 a.m. Mass May 24 at St. James.

Father John Barkemeyer 51, was born in Evanston and attended St. Francis Xavier School, Wilmette; Quigley North, Niles College Seminary and North American College in Rome. He was ordained July 30, 1990. He served as associate pastor at St. Cajetan (1991-1994), vocation director at Mundelein Seminary (1994-1998) and pastor of St. Cajetan (1998-2004). He has served as a U.S. Army chaplain since 2004. As of Jan. 1, he had been deployed to Iraq five times and to Afghanistan twice, and had attained the rank of major.

Father Andrzej Belkowski was incardinated into the Archdiocese of Chicago in October 2011 from the Diocese of Kielce, Poland. Prior to incardination, he served at Our Lady of Loretto, Hometown, St. Theresa, Palatine, and as associate pastor at St. Barbara (Throop Street), where he continues to serve.

Father Jackson Colon served as associate pastor at St. Mary, Evanston (1990-1998); Santa Maria Del Popolo, Mundelein (1998-2006); and Sacred Heart, Melrose Park (2006-2007). He resided at St. Ignatius Parish (2008-2013) and served as chaplain at Stroger Hospital (2012-2013) before being named associate pastor at Our Lady of Mount Carmel (Belmont Avenue).

Father James Hurlbert 51, was born in Detroit and attended St. Mary School, Lake Forest; Brother Rice High School, Birmingham, Michigan; Kalamazoo College; and University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary. He was a weekend assistant at Immaculate Conception, Waukegan, while studying for his licentiate in sacred theology (1990-1991); associate pastor at St. Pascal (1991-1996) and St. Anne, Barrington (1996-2000); and pastor at St. Alphonsus (Wellington Avenue) (2000-2012). He has served as a chaplain at Nue-stros Pequenos Hermanos in Guatemala (2013-present) and will start an assignment as pastor of Ascension, Oak Park, in July. He also served on the Presbyteral Council while at St. Pascal and as an adjunct spiritual director at Niles College Seminary and St. Joseph College Seminary (1994-2000). He celebrated his anniversary privately.

Father John Moulder 54, was born in Lake Forest and attended St. Mary School, Lake Forest; Lake Forest High School; Southern Illinois University and the University of St. Mary of the Lake. He served as associate pastor at St. Mary, Vernon Hills, and St. Bonaventure, and as associate pastor and then administrator at Ascension, Oak Park; and as liaison to the arts community with residence at St. Gregory the Great. He is an accomplished and well-known jazz guitarist who has played professionally since he was a teenager.

Father Patrick O’Neill 65, was born in Evergreen Park and attended Queen of Apostles and McKinley schools, Thornridge High School, St. Joseph’s Calumet College and University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary. He served as associate pastor at St. Denis (1990-1995); St. Terrence, Alsip (1995-2001); St. Cletus, LaGrange (2001-2008); and St. Alexander, Palos Heights (2008-present). He has served on the Presbyteral Council, was honorary chaplain for the Alsip Fire Department and is on the boards of the St. George Corporation and Palos Community Hospital. He celebrated his anniversary May 17 at St. Alexander.

Father Nestor Saenz 57, was born in Callao, Peru. He studied at Catholic University in Quito, Ecuador, and then at Salesian seminaries in Chile and Guatemala. He served in Salesian seminaries and schools in South America from 1990-1997, and then was named rector of Nazareth House Seminary in Lima, Peru (1998-1999). He came to Chicago and served as an associate pastor at St. Alphonsus (Wellington Avenue) (1999-2000); Our Lady of Lourdes (2000-2004); and St. Bernardine, Forest Park (2004-2005). Now incardinated in the archdiocese, he has served as pastor of Our Lady of Fatima since 2006. Ordained on Dec. 8, 1990, he will celebrate his anniversary in Lima on Oct. 17 and at Our Lady of Fatima on Dec. 8 and 13.

Father Wayne Watts 50, was born in Chicago and attended St. Giles School and Fenwick High School in Oak Park, Marquette University and University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary. He was associate pastor of St. Francis Xavier, Wilmette (1990-1996), a resident of Queen of All Saints (1996-2006) and pastor of St. John Berchmans (2006-present). He also taught religion, was on the formation faculty and was vice president of advancement at Archbishop Quigley Preparatory Seminary (1996-2002) and associate administrator and chaplain of the junior board at Catholic Charities of the archdiocese (2002-present). He celebrated his anniversary May 17 at St. John Berchmans.
