We are all a mixture of origins
There seems to be a persistent interest in discovering one’s ancestry through DNA testing. Yet, I have never met anyone who has learned that their ethnic origins are singular. Rather, when people receive testing results, they see a certain percentage of their DNA has its origins in this part of the world, and another portion of their genetic material may come from another, and another and another.

The Baptist: Our model for Advent
One of the novelties found in the readings introduced in the lectionary of the Second Vatican Council is the prominence given to John the Baptist in the second and third weeks of Advent. John is presented as a witness to the coming of Christ, the implication of which is that he serves as a model for how we are to prepare for the coming of Christ. We too are to be witnesses. A eucharistic revival that renews the church: Part V
A parishioner recently mentioned that my series of articles on the Eucharist triggered memories about the way Mass was celebrated before the Second Vatican Council. A eucharistic revival that renews the church: Part IV
In the fall of 1965, I was a junior in high school. That was the year my home parish of Sts. Peter and Paul in South Omaha, Nebraska, was making plans to build a new church.

A Eucharistic Revival that Renews the Church: Part III
In his letter “Desiderio Desideravi,” Pope Francis addresses the complaint that a “sense of mystery” was lost with the Second Vatican Council’s reform of the liturgy.

A eucharistic revival that renews the church: Part II
As I noted in my last column, with his letter on liturgical formation, “Desiderio Desideravi,” Pope Francis has made a unique contribution to the three-year eucharistic revival launched by the U.S. Catholic bishops.

A eucharistic revival that renews the church
The Catholic bishops of the United States have launched a eucharistic revival over the next three years. Pope Francis has made a singular contribution to that effort with the recent release of his powerful and theologically rich apostolic letter on the liturgical formation of the people of God, “Desiderio Desideravi” (“I have earnestly desired”).
