Cardinal Cupich offers remarks as the Archdiocese of Chicago joined the Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago to mark a day’s fast at the 24th Annual Muslim-Catholic Iftar dinner and program on March 13, 2024, at the Islamic Foundation North in Libertyville. Sponsored by the CIOGC, the annual interfaith iftar commemorates breaking the Ramadan fast, observing maghrib prayer and sharing a festive dinner and program. St. Frances of Rome School in Cicero to remain open
On March 6, 2024, it was announced that St. Frances of Rome School in Cicero will remain open—reversing the announcement made in January that the school would close at the end of the current school year. This news comes after Big Shoulders Fund, the Archdiocese of Chicago, the parish of St. Frances of Rome School and St. Anne Parish in Barrington, the school’s sharing parish, rallied to provide the funds needed to keep the school in operation for at least the next five years. Mother of the Americas youth group promotes vocations
Members of the St. Aloysius Youth Group at Our Lady of the Americas Parish, 2226 S. Whipple St., serve at Mass on March 3, 2024. The group serves the noon Mass each Sunday along with special occasions during the year. Members, all young men, must be open to God’s will for them and to discerning a vocation to priesthood. Remember Jesus’ Jewishness, Bernardin speaker says

Boys, SNJM, of Union Theological Seminary in New York, was the keynote speaker at the 27th Annual Joseph Cardinal Bernardin Jerusalem Lecture at North Shore Congregation Israel in Glencoe, on March 4, 2024. Rabbi Wendi Geffen, senior rabbi at NSCI, provided the introduction of speakers and served as emcee. The lecture is part of a longstanding series that maintains dialogue between Jewish and Catholic communities on the theological issues affecting their relationship. Ukrainian Catholics recognize second anniversary of war with Russia
Over 1,500 clergy, parishioners and a Ukrainian acapella choir from St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, 835 N. Oakley Ave., walked to Holy Name Cathedral for a prayer service to mark the two-year anniversary of the war in Ukraine on Feb. 24, 2024. Sacred music points youth toward God, director says
More than 15 youth choirs from the Archdiocese of Chicago, Joliet, Rockford and Michigan participated in the Chicago Choral Festival and Mass presented by the American Federation Pueri Cantores on Feb. 24, 2024 at Holy Name Cathedral. The young singers practiced together all day with guest conductor Carling FitzSimmons, then joined Bishop Mark Bartosic for the 5:15 p.m. Mass where they led the singing. AFPC is the official music organization for students in the Catholic church. Schools hold African American heritage service
The Archdiocese of Chicago hosted its 46th annual African American Heritage Prayer Service on Feb. 23, 2024 at Holy Name Cathedral, 735 N. State St. Divine Word Father Carl Gales, associate pastor at Our Lady of Africa Parish, was the main presider and homilist. Greg Richmond, superintendent of Catholic Schools, and archdiocesan priests and deacons joined hundreds of students from across the archdiocese for this Black History Month celebration. ‘Fired Up Friday’ draws over 200 young people to youth center
Over 200 youth from five parishes gather for "Fired Up Friday" at the Blessed Sacrament Youth Center, 3600 W. Cermak Road, on Feb. 16, 2024 for dancing, games and adoration. St. John Neumann Parish fish fry a community affair
