Students celebrate back-to-back championships
Students at De La Salle Institute celebrated back to back basketball championships with a pep rally at the school on April 12, 2024. For the second consecutive season, the team comprised of students from De La Salle and Southside Occupational Academy in Chicago, won the championship of the IHSA/Special Olympics of Illinois Division II Unified Basketball State Tournament held at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in March. Archdiocese hosts gathering about different forms of prayer
Following last fall's Archdiocesan Day of Renewal, the archdiocese hosted Encountering Christ in Daily Prayer on April 13, 2024 at St. Raymond de Pentafort Parish in Mount Prospect. Nurses dedicated to improving the health, wellness of priests
For advanced practice nurses Mary Kay Gawne and Cathlin Poronsky, a typical day can include everything from health presentations at meetings to unexpected trips to the emergency room. Gawne and Poronsky work out of the Vicar for Priests office, and are tasked with supporting the health of active and retired priests in the archdiocese.
The unlikely story of a sculptor and Father Tolton
This is the unlikely story of the connection between Tucker, a sculptor from the countryside of Hendricks County, Indiana, and Father Augustus Tolton, who was born into slavery and became a source of hope, humanity and Christ’s love, especially to Black Catholics in Chicago in the late 19th century.
Melrose Park parish celebrates St. Joseph Table
Our Lady of Mount Carmel celebrated the feast of St. Joseph on March 17, 2024, with Mass in Italian, a procession around the church and school and a traditional St. Joseph’s Table. Celebrations for the feast are popular in Italy and with Italian Americans. St. Sabina unveils statue of Jesus weeping over gun violence victim
On March 25, 2024, St. Sabina Parish and Purpose Over Pain unveiled “Thou Shall Not Kill,” a life-sized sculpture by Timothy Schmalz. The statue is a depiction of Jesus kneeling over a modern-day victim of gun violence. Shaving heads to help kids with cancer
Students and families at Queen of Martyrs School in Evergreen Park had their heads shaved at a pep rally as part of a St. Baldrick's Day event on March 15, 2024.
