Sr. Mary Jane Hicks
Sister of the Holy Child Jesus Mary Jane (Mother Mary Collette) Hicks, 86, died Feb. 26 in Pennsylvania.
Born in Chicago, she entered the Society of the Holy Child Jesus in 1951. She served as a principal, teacher, school secretary and financial manager in the Archdiocese of Chicago; New York; Philadelphia; Washington, D.C.; Las Cruces, New Mexico; and Rome, Italy.
She is survived by her sisters, Franciscan Sister Fran Hicks and Carol Ruehl, and her brother, Larry Hicks.
There will be a memorial Mass at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 3834 N. Spaulding Ave., June 27 at 11 a.m.

Deacon Philip Bertolani
Deacon Philip A. Bertolani, 64, died May 14. He was ordained in 2003 and served at St. Benedict (Irving Park Road) and St. Bede, Ingleside.
Deacon Bertolani was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society for many years. He helped found the Knights of Columbus at St. Benedict and was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 3788 at St. Bede when he died.
Deacon Bertolani is survived by his father, Ray Bertolani; his wife of 44 years, Holly Bertolani; children Lisa Olson and Michael Bertolani; grandchildren Aria, Kirsten and Charlotte; and sisters Nancy Blair and Roseann Seablom.

Deacon Benito Velasco
Deacon Benito Velasco, 81, died May 13. He was ordained in 1986 and served his whole ministry at Maternity BVM Parish. Deacon Velasco is survived by his wife, Maria; children Minerva Velasco, Margarita Velasco, Isabel Fernandez Velasco and Miriam Reyes; grandchildren Benito Garibay, Desiree Taylor, Juan Fernandez Jr., Noemi Reyes and Taina Reyes; two great-grandchildren; and brothers Antonio, Miguel and Francisco Velasco.

Sr. Margaret Mary Miller
Sister Margaret Mary Miller, a Religious of the Sacred Heart, 89, died May 17 in California.
Born in Omaha, Nebraska, she entered the Society of the Sacred Heart in 1951 and made her final profession in 1960.
She served as provincial for the Chicago Province (1970-1976) and as director of the Sacred Heart Schools in Chicago (1977-1986).

Sr. Joan Hentges
Benedictine Sister Joan Marie (Theodore) Hentges, 85, died May 14 at St. Scholastica Monastery.
She was born in South Dakota and raised in Colorado. She entered the Benedictine Sisters of Chicago in 1948, after her junior year of high school, and professed vows in 1953.
Sister Joan taught in Chicago at St. Symphorosa, Queen of All Saints and St. John Nepomucene. She also ministered in Arizona and Colorado.
