Shrine enthrones new image of Our Lady of Guadalupe

The Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Des Plaines held a Mass and enthronement ceremony on Aug. 14, 2023 for a new image of Mary. The enthronement formally replaced the previous image of Our Lady of Guadalupe with a new rendition given to the shrine by Cardinal Carlos Aguiar Retes, archbishop of Mexico City. The new image serves as a sign of the connection between the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe there and the shrine in Chicago. (Karen Callaway/Chicago Catholic)
