Holy Week 2018

We take a visual journey through Holy Week 2018 in the Archdiocese of Chicago
Cardinal Cupich was the main celebrant and homilist at the Chrism Mass at Holy Name Cathedral on March 27. During this Mass, the oil of catechumens, the oil of the sick and the oil of chrism for use in parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Chicago were blessed. These oils are accepted by representatives of each parish in the archdiocese and used for adult catechumens and infants, for Anointing of the Sick, for Baptism, for Confirmation, for the Ordination of priests and for the consecration of altars throughout the year. Parishes in Chicago's Brighton Park neighborhood held their annual Via Crucis on Good Friday March 30. The living stations included an address from Cardinal Cupich urging peace and an end to gun violence. Local students who attended the national March for Our Lives march in Washington, D.C. also addressed the gathering. (Tom Maday/Chicago Catholic)

Parishioners at St. Rita of Cascia Parish, 6243 S. Fairfield Ave., walk during a Good Friday "Procesión de Silencio" up Washtenaw Avenue to St Clare de Montefalco Parish on March 30. The procession commemorates the act of the mourning of Christ's Passion and Death and accompanying the Blessed Mother in her sorrow. It is one of the most important observances of Holy Week in Mexico. (Karen Callaway/Chicago Catholic)
