Catholic families from around the Archdiocese of Chicago are invited to Catholic Family Day at Six Flags Great America theme park in Gurnee on June 22.

The event will begin with Mass at 9:30 a.m. in the Wilderness Theater before the park opens at 10:30 a.m. Tickets are $34 per person (a discount from full price tickets, which are $64.99), and a picnic package is $47.62, which includes park admission and an all-you-can-eat buffet that will be open from 1:30 until 3 p.m.

Order tickets online at www.sixflags.com/greatamerica and enter the promo code: CATHOLIC when making a purchase.

The day celebrates the end of the Strategic Pastoral Plan’s Year of Strong Catholic Parents.. Efforts throughout the year have included resources distributed to parishes and schools by the Office for Catholic Schools and the Office for Catechesis and Youth Ministry.

About half the archdiocese’s 356 parishes have named a family advocate to receive information aimed at helping them become more family-friendly parishes, said Nancy Polacek, coordinator for the Strategic Pastoral Plan.

The archdiocese also sponsored a video contest for teens with the theme of Strong Catholic Parents. For information, visit www.archchicago.org/StrategicPastoralPlan/Strong-CatholicParents or call (312) 534-5316.
