Augustinians

75 YEARS

FATHER DANIEL J. HARTIGAN was a teacher, school administrator and clinical psychologist. He served at St. Rita of Cascia and Mendel Catholic high schools; Tolentine College, Olympia Fields; and the Chicago Board of Health and was the director of the Mid-South Mental Health Center. He is retired at Blessed Stephen Bellesini Friary, Lemont.

FATHER FRANCIS X. LAWLOR was a teacher and did pro-life and moral decency work. He served at St. Rita of Cascia High School and in Rockford, Ill. He is retired at the Blessed Stephen Bellesini Friary, Lemont.

70 YEARS
FATHER JOHN R. GAVIN, from St. Margaret of Scotland Parish, was a teacher, school administrator, development director and parish priest. He served at St. Rita of Cascia and Mendel Catholic high schools and in Michigan and Missouri. He is retired at Blessed Stephen Bellesini Friary, Lemont.
60 YEARS
FATHER ERWIN J. DODGE, from St. Mary, Star of the Sea Parish, was a teacher and hospital chaplain. He served at St. Rita of Cascia and Mendel Catholic high schools; Mercy and Holy Cross hospitals and Palos Community Hospital, Palos Heights. He is semi-retired at St. Rita Monastery.
50 YEARS

BROTHER FREDERICK R. KAISER, from St. Theodore Parish, was a youth minister, vocation director, business manager and director of the Augustinian volunteer program, and he worked in religious education and building maintenance and management. He served at Mendel Catholic High School Monastery; Austin Friary; Tolentine Monastery, Olympia Fields; and St. John Stone Friary, where he is semi-retired. He also worked in Michigan and Wisconsin.

FATHER JAMES G. THOMPSON, from St. Rita Parish, worked in formation, counseling, pastoral ministry and as a hospital chaplain. He served at St. Rita; Little Company of Mary Hospital, Evergreen Park; St. John Stone Friary, where he ministers now; and in Missouri and Canada.

25 YEARS

FATHER THOMAS R. McCARTHY, from St. Adrian Parish, has worked in education, vocations, campus ministry and preaching. He served at St. Rita of Cascia High School and is the director of vocations for the Augustinian provinces of Our Mother of Good Counsel (Central U.S.), St. Thomas of Villanova (Eastern U.S.) and St. Joseph (Canada). He ministers from St. Rita Monastery.

FATHER BERNARD R. SCIANNA, from St. Stephen Parish, was a teacher and school administrator. He served at St. Rita of Cascia High School; in New Lenox, Ill.; and in Oklahoma. He is the prior provincial of the Augustinian Province of Our Mother of Good Counsel, St. Rita Monastery.

Society of the Divine Word

80 YEARS
BROTHER CYRIL (GERALD) SCHROEDER was a typesetter, tailor, receptionist and switchboard operator. He served at Techny’s Mission Press and produced “Christian Family” and “Little Missionary” magazines, almanacs, calendars and other publications. He also worked in Iowa and Michigan. He is retired in Techny.
70 YEARS
FATHER PASCHAL LOBIANCO, a Chicago native, spent 32 years as a missionary in Ghana, where he did pastoral work; established the mission district of Akim; built a church, convent and rectory; opened the Government Teaching Training College; founded the Nurses Training School; and was vicar general bursar for the Diocese of Accra. He also did pastoral care in Belleville and Springfield, Ill., and now lives in Techny.
65 YEARS

FATHER DONALD EHR served in congregation leadership, pastoral care and community development in Chicago. He served as pastor of St. Elizabeth; provincial superior of the SVD’s Eastern Province; charter member of the board of directors of the Genesis Housing Corporation; and worked in Washington, D.C., and New Jersey. He is the priest in residence at St. Anselm.

FATHER PAUL GOOTEE was a missionary in Indonesia for 55 years. While there, he did pastoral care in parishes, built several churches and schools, founded the Farmers’ Union and a consumer cooperative and was chaplain of the Center of Rehabilitation, a medical clinic and farm to assist people with leprosy. He is retired in Techny.

60 YEARS

FATHER ANDREW BILLER worked in the Philippines for 39 years, teaching at seminaries, serving as dean of theology at Divine Word College and received a Life-giving Achievement Award from Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish. He also did pastoral care in Missouri and is retired in Techny.

FATHER ARNOLD LANG worked in education, pastoral care and was a missionary in Appalachia. He served in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Iowa and at several West Virginia locations. He is retired in Techny.

50 YEARS

FATHER JOSEPH BUGNER, from St. Mary Parish, Buffalo Grove, was a missionary in Papua New Guinea for 35 years. He did pastoral care, supervised catechists and built the Kuli medical clinic there. He is retired at Techny.

FATHER DAVID STREIT, from St. Gregory the Great Parish, served in academics and international and congregation administration. He served in West Virginia, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and in Canada. He assists in pastoral care in the SVD Appalachian District and is semi-retired in Techny.

25 YEARS

FATHER CHARLES SMITH, from Our Lady of the Gardens Parish, has been a missionary in Bolivia and a hospital chaplain, and has worked in African-American ministry. He served as a chaplain in the federal prison system; is a founding member of the Bowman Francis Ministry team; is president of Apostolics for Life; coauthored “Boyhood to Manhood” and “My Family, Our Family;” and has been an organizational consultant and trainer with numerous nonprofit, community groups and organizations. He and his identical twin brother are the first African- American twins to both become Catholic priests. He is a hospital chaplain at Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center, Indianapolis.

FATHER CHESTER SMITH, from Our Lady of the Gardens Parish, has worked in pastoral and African-American ministry. He served at St. Anselm; is a founding member of the Bowman Francis Ministry team; served as president of the National Black Clergy Caucus; coauthored “Boyhood to Manhood” and “My Family, Our Family”; and did pastoral ministry in Missouri, Georgia and Indiana. He and his identical twin brother are the first African-American twins to become Catholic priests. He is the director of the Bowman Francis Ministry team, Indianapolis.

50 YEARS
FATHER JAMES MAGNAN, from St. Gabriel Parish, worked as an infirmarian and in parish ministry, CCD, hospital pastoral care, as a mission secretary and chaplain. He served at Mercy Medical Center and is at St. Rita of Cascia High School.
25 YEARS

FATHER ROBERT ROERNER has been a vocation director and ministered in gerontology and as volunteer coordinator for Milwaukee Capuchin ministries. He now serves as co-director for St. Ben’s Community Meal, Milwaukee.

Franciscan Friars, Assumption BVM Province

50 YEARS

FATHER ANTHONY CHOJNACKI, from St. Mary Magdalene Parish, devoted his religious life to internal friary ministry, which he now does at the Lourdes Friary, Cedar Lake, Ind.

FATHER LESLIE HOPPE, from St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish, is a professor of Old Testament Scripture at Catholic Theological Union, and he does weekend pastoral assistance at St. Rosalie, Harwood Heights. He also was the provincial minister of Franciscan Friars, Assumption BVM Province in Wisconsin and provincial vicar.

BROTHER JERRY TOKARZ, from St. John of God Parish, worked in education and was a history lecturer; dean of students; provincial director of communications and secretary of the province. He served in Pennsylvania and now is the provincial historian and author at the Assumption BVM Friary, Pulaski, Wis.

FATHER FINIAN ZAUCHA, from Holy Innocents Parish, was a pastor who worked in parochial and Byzantine ministries. He served as a provincial librarian, archivist, pastor and chaplain to the Manitowoc Franciscan Sisters in Wisconsin. He now is pastor at Assumption BVM, Pulaski, Wis.

25 YEARS

FATHER BERNARD KENNEDY has worked in education and Franciscan formation and was an instructor in the pastoral theology diaconate formation program for the Archdiocese of Chicago. He served at Notre Dame and Holy Cross high schools and was a chaplain to the Holy Cross Brothers. He now is the interprovincial director of friar formation and interprovincial director of priestly formation, St. Joseph Friary, and director of spiritual formation for the diaconate program for the archdiocese.

60 YEARS
FATHER LEONARD N. BANAS, from St. James Parish (Hanson Park), has been a teacher, administrator, parish priest, congregation leader and chaplain. He served at Notre Dame High School for Boys, Niles; in Rome; and in several capacities at Notre Dame, Ind., where he now lives.
50 YEARS

FATHER CHARLES W. KOHLERMAN has been a teacher, administrator, retreat leader and seminary chaplain, and he gave parish missions, did formation work and was a congregation leader. He served at Notre Dame High School for Boys, Niles, and was the assistant village manager for the Village of Niles, Ill. He also worked as the religious superior at two Holy Cross facilities in Notre Dame, Ind. where he now lives.

FATHER JAMES N. WATZKE, a Chicago native, was a clinical and consulting psychologist. He served at the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago, Westside Veterans Hospital, in Massachusetts and in Santiago, Chile. He now has a full-time private practice as a Chicago-area clinical and consulting psychologist.

60 YEARS

FATHER RICHARD W. ANDERSON devoted his religious life to adult faith formation. He lives at St. Ignatius Jesuit Residence.

FATHER ROBERT T. SEARS, a Chicago native, was a spiritual director and writer. He lives at the Woodlawn Jesuit Residence.

50 YEARS

FATHER PATRICK J. BOYLE, a Chicago native, is a professor of moral theology at the University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary, Mundelein.

FATHER WILLIAM E. CREED, a Chicago native, is an instructor and board chair at the Institute of Pastoral Studies Ignatian Spirituality Project. He lives at the Gonzaga House Jesuit Community.

FATHER JOHN T. DILLON works in community service at the Colombiere Center, Clarkston, Mich.

FATHER PAUL B. MACKE is director, Bellarmine Jesuit Retreat House, Barrington.

BROTHER KEVIN MORAN worked in education, school administration and as a bookstore manager. He served at Marist High School and now volunteers there.

FATHER ARTHUR CARRILLO preached mission appeals and parish missions. He is the director of mission appeals and lives in Chicago.

FATHER MICHAEL HIGGINS has been a congregation leader and administrator. He did retreat and preaching ministry and was the provincial superior of the Holy Cross Province. He is the director of the province development office, Chicago.

60 YEARS
FATHER CHARLES BUECHE did pastoral ministry and missionary and publication work. He served at St. Alphonsus, Ligouri Publications and in Bangkok. He lives at St. Clement’s Health Care Center, Ligouri, Mo.
50 YEARS

FATHER JOHN ANDREE was a missionary and worked in administration and pastoral ministry. He was director of Villa Redeemer Retreat Center, Glenview; ministered at St. Alphonsus; and was director of the Co- Redemptorist Association. He is semi-retired and helps coordinate his province’s mission team at St. Michael Parish (Cleveland Avenue).

FATHER HARRY GRILE worked in education and administration, as a parish mission preacher and did publications work. He ministered at Blessed Sacrament/Our Lady of Lourdes; was director of the Redemptorist theology students attending Catholic Theological Union; was president and publisher of Liguori Publications and served in Minnesota and Washington. He now is provincial of the Redemptorist province.

FATHER JOHN PHELPS worked in pastoral ministry, in an apostolate for young people and as a vocation director. He began Life Directions, a program he initiated for young people in several cities. He is at St. Michael (Cleveland Avenue), where he continues his apostolate to young people.

25 YEARS

FATHER GREGORY MAY ministered primarily to Hispanic communities. He served at Mission San Juan Diego, Arlington Heights, and in Colorado, Michigan and Texas. He is at the Redemptorist Renewal Center, Picture Rocks, Cortaro, Ariz.

FATHER PAUL BINH TA has worked in pastoral ministry, with youth and in administration. He served at St. Michael (Cleveland Avenue) in the youth program Life Directions; at St. Alphonsus; and was director of the Redemptorist Theology Residence, and he served in Louisiana. He is pastor of Sacred Heart Parish, Seattle.

DEACON AND BROTHER DALE A. BARTH was an educator, administrator and parish minister. He served at St. Viator High School and the Viatorian Province Center, Arlington Heights; St. Viator Parish; in Bourbonnais and Kankakee, Ill.; and in Nevada. He is retired at the Viatorian Retirement Residence, Arlington Heights.

FATHER CHARLES G. BOLSER worked in secondary education and administration and parish ministry. He served at St. Viator High School and Viatorian Province Center, Arlington Heights; St. Martin de Porres High School, Waukegan (now Cristo Rey St. Martin College Prep); in Springfield and Bourbonnais, Ill.; and in Nevada. BROTHER PATRICK T. DROHAN worked in retreat ministry. He has been the on-site administrator at Villa Desiderata Retreat Center, McHenry, Ill., since 1963.

FATHER JOHN E. ECK worked in secondary education and parish ministry. He served at St. Viator High School, Arlington Heights; Viatorian Formation program; Prologue High School; and St. Viator Parish; and in Rock Island, Springfield, Peoria and Kankakee, Ill. He now lives in retirement in Kankakee.

FATHER ERWIN M. SAVELA, from St. Alphonsus Parish, worked in secondary education and parish ministry. He served in Kankakee and Springfield, Ill., and in Nevada. He now ministers to those recovering from addictions at Loma Linda University Medical Center, Redlands, Calif.

FATHER DONALD R. WEHNERT worked in secondary education and parish ministry. He served at St. Viator High School, Arlington Heights; St. Viator Parish; and in Riverton, Peoria, Springfield, Kankakee, Beaverville and Martinton, Ill.; and in Nevada. FATHER DANIEL R. HALL worked in secondary education, parish ministry and as a military chaplain. SISTER SUSAN STUCKI, a Chicago native, worked in nursing, nursing education and administration and the care of babies and children affected by HIV/AIDS. She served at Marian College and in Wisconsin. She now teaches English as a second language and does volunteer work in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, University of Illinois Medical Center.
25 YEARS

SISTER SUSAN MARIE SEEBY has been a teacher and spiritual director and done retreat work and formation. She served at Good Counsel, St. Joseph, Our Lady of Tepeyac, Mother McAuley and Maria high schools. She now does social-justice work at Brother David Darst Center in Bridgeport and spiritual direction for her community.

50 YEARS
SISTER TEODOZJA MARIA LICHOSYT was a therapist, nurse and sacristan. She has been involved in the management of domestic duties at the cardinal’s residence and is the superior of the sisters working there. She also served for Bishop Andrew Grutka in Gary, Ind.
25 YEARS

SISTER NOEMI WANDA GIL was a catechist, sacristan and administrator. She was a coordinator of the food pantry and soup kitchen at St. Blase and worked at Catholic Charities. She is a catechist at St. William.

Benedictines

80 YEARS
SISTER VIVIAN IVANTIC, from Mother of God Parish in Waukegan, taught at St. Hilary, St. Joseph (Orleans Street), St. George (Wentworth Avenue), St. Symphorosa and St. Scholastica Academy and was principal of Mother of God, Waukegan. She is semi-retired and serves as her community’s archivist.
60 YEARS

SISTER RITA NOWAK, from St. Margaret Mary Parish, taught at Queen of All Saints, St. Symphorosa, St. Joseph (Orleans Street), St. Scholastica Academy and St. George (Wentworth Avenue), where she also was principal. She has served as subprioress of her community and director of buildings and grounds.

SISTER JANE SMITH, from St. Hilary Parish, taught at St. Lambert, Skokie; St. George (Wentworth Avenue); Queen of All Saints; St. Symphorosa; and St. Hilary, where she was also principal. She also served in health care and ministry to the elderly, as well as prioress of her community. She is the community chauffeur.

SISTER M. REGINALD TAMULEVICH was a violinist and music teacher. She served at Holy Cross; Immaculate Conception (44th Street); Nativity BVM; Maria High School; St. Anthony, Cicero; and in Pennsylvania and New Mexico. She does prayer ministry.
60 YEARS

SISTER M. AGNESE CHAPKAUSKAS, from St. Anthony Parish, Cicero, worked in education and as a Holy Cross Hospital pastoral minister. She served at Providence of God, St. Pius X, Maria High School and Holy Cross Hospital; in the Joliet diocese; and in Indiana, New Mexico, Nebraska, Minnesota and Wisconsin. She does prayer ministry.

SISTER MARY LAWRENCE PUISHYS worked in education, school and health care administration and as a health care patient advocate. She served at St. George; Immaculate Conception (44th Street); Providence of God; St. Joseph; St. Casimir, Chicago Heights; Holy Cross Hospital; and in Florida and Pennsylvania. She is a Holy Cross Hospital patient advocate.

SISTER LORRAINE THERESE SIMINAS, a Chicago native from Our Lady of the Ridge Parish, Chicago Ridge, worked in education. She served at Holy Cross; Nativity BVM; St. Bartholomew; St. George; Providence of God; Sts. Peter and Paul; Our Lady of Vilna; and St. Norbert, Northbrook; in the Joliet diocese; and in New Mexico, Michigan, Maryland, Minnesota, Ohio and Pennsylvania. She does prayer ministry.

SISTER MARY DESALES SOKOL, from St. Clare of Montefalco Parish, worked in education and administration and established the Sisters of St. Casimir Food Pantry, a Head Start program and was her community’s general counsel. She served at Immaculate Conception (44th Street); Providence of God; Our Lady of Vilna; St. Pius X; St. Norbert, Northbrook; in the Joliet and Rockford dioceses; and in Indiana. She does prayer ministry.

50 YEARS
SISTER THERESA DABULIS was an educator, parish director of religious education and social worker. She served at Providence of God; St. Norbert, Northbrook; Maria High School; and in Washington, D.C., Pennsylvania and Maryland. She now is a counselor for on-going formation and spirituality.
25 YEARS

SISTER NANCY STREITMATTER is a medical doctor. She served at Holy Cross Hospital, where she was director of its Intensive Care Unit; was a participant in the Solidarity Mission to Bolivia 19 times; and a volunteer at St. Basil Free Clinic for 20 years. She is a cardiologist and now director of the echocardiology lab at Holy Cross Hospital.

Cenacle Sisters

60 YEARS

SISTER BARBARA EHRLER, from St. William Parish, has offered retreat and spiritual direction and religious formation and served as a congregation leader. She was on staff at the Longwood, Warrenville and Chicago Cenacle retreat houses and was superior general of the congregation and director of preparation for perpetual vows in the United States and in the Philippines. She is the coordinator of the Cenacle Spiritual Center in Lantana, Fla.

Daughters of Charity

60 YEARS

SISTER JUDITH BRISELDEN, a Chicago native, ministered in teaching, administration, adult education, social work and service as an English as a second language and literacy teacher. She worked at Our Lady of the Gardens, Josephinum High School and now is the director of adult education at St. Vincent Family Services, where she teaches GED preparation.

SISTER CAROLINE CLARK was a teacher, principal, archdiocesan mission coordinator, vocation director and parish minister. She served as a parish minister at St. Vincent de Paul Parish and was the coordinator of outreach services. She is the Midwest regional spiritual advisor for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Farmington Hills, Mich.

SISTER MARY QUINN, from Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, worked in teaching, health care and social ministry. She was the Daughters of Charity liaison for St. Joseph Health Centers and Hospital and coordinator of volunteers for Marillac Social Center. She now does ministry of prayer in Evansville, Ind.

50 YEARS

SISTER SHEILA MARIE HART, from Immaculate Conception Parish, Highland Park, worked in elementary, remedial and computer education, as a librarian and as director of formation for the St. Vincent de Paul Society. She is preparing for a new ministry and lives in St. Louis.

Sisters of Christian Charity

75 YEARS
SISTER MARY CLETUS SESTERHENN, from St. Joseph Parish, Wilmette, was a high school and college math and chemistry instructor and managed a Loyola Campus bookstore. She was a sacristan, receptionist and local treasurer. She served at St. Gregory High School, Josephinum Academy, Loyola University at Mallinckrodt Campus, Wilmette, and in Minnesota, Michigan, Iowa, Missouri and New Jersey. She is a part-time receptionist at Sacred Heart Convent, Wilmette.
60 YEARS
SISTER PHYLLIS ZIERDEN was a teacher, librarian, sacristan, cook and laundress and worked at a senior citizen center. She worked at St. Aloysius and Josephinum convents and in Michigan, Iowa, Minnesota and Missouri. She is a sacristan, driver and part-time receptionist at Sacred Heart Convent, Wilmette.
50 YEARS
SISTER M. JOANNE LADWIG was an elementary and Montessori teacher; novice directress; trainer of teachers in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd; coordinator of the Companions of Pauline; and a group mother and child care worker. She served at the Ronald Knox Montessori School, Wilmette; St. Theresa, Palatine; in Clarendon Hills, Ill.; and in Louisiana, Missouri and New Jersey. She now is a local leader for her community; a Montessori teacher; coordinator of the Companions of Pauline; and formation leader for the national organization of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, all in New Orleans.
40 YEARS

SISTER JOAN CLARE COONEY, who was baptized at St. Henry and received First Communion and confirmation at St. Gertrude Parish, taught in elementary and secondary schools, was a reading supervisor for her community, taught reading courses for Loyola and DePaul universities and at Mallinckrodt College and was a supervisory education consultant for the Archdiocese of Chicago. She served at St. Aloysius; St. Raphael; St. Theresa of Avila; St. Alphonsus, Prospect Heights; Holy Trinity; and in Michigan, Louisiana and Minnesota. She now is the directress of the literacy program sponsored by the Sisters of Christian Charity at Josephinum Convent.

SISTER DOROTHY FOLLIARD, from St. Laurence Parish, was a teacher who served at St. Edmund, Oak Park; St. Mary of the Lake University/Mundelein Seminary, Mundelein; and in Texas. She is retired in Adrian, Mich..

SISTER ELAINE (MARY JOSEPH LORETTA) LEDERER, from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, was an educator for 50 years and a volunteer pastoral minister for 10 years. She served at Queen of Angels, St. Hilary and St. Kilian. She is retired in Adrian, Mich.

SISTER RITA SCHILTZ, from St. Rita Parish, was a teacher and designer of sacred space. She served at Aquinas High School; in St. Charles and Naperville, Ill.; and in Kansas, Maryland, Texas, Ohio, Michigan, Maine, Ontario and Rome. She is an artist and designer at INAI Studio, Adrian, Mich.

60 YEARS

SISTER BARBARA CHENICEK, from St. Philip Neri Parish, was a teacher and designer of sacred space. SISTER THERESE MARY MARTINEZ worked with Hispanic people in the Northwest suburbs. She has worked with Little Mexico for 55 years, helping Hispanic families to buy their own homes and currently serves as the agency’s director. She lives in Northfield.

SISTER CORINNE BAUER, a Chicago native, was a biology teacher in the Milwaukee, Chicago and Peoria dioceses. In the late 1960s, she transferred to health care, where she became a lab technician. She worked 20 years at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center. She lives in Aurora.

SISTER EVANGELINE McSLOY, a Chicago native, was a formation director and ministered in teaching, music and parish ministry, where she worked in three African- American parishes. She is retired in Chicago.

SISTER MARGARET MARY MOLONEY, a Chicago native, authored five books and served as a dean, professor and director of nursing schools. She is retired in Naperville, Ill.

SISTER HELEN WEINFURTER was a professor of American literature at St. Xavier University for 30 years. Before teaching college, she taught at St. Catherine of Siena, Oak Park; St. Mary of the Lake; and St. Gabriel; as well as in Seneca, Ill., and Milwaukee.

70 YEARS

SISTER MARY FEARON, a native of Chicago, is an author and is now serving in the ministry of prayer. She taught throughout the Archdiocese of Chicago for 20 years, as well as in the dioceses of Peoria and Davenport, Iowa. In 1967, she was called to serve in the Chicago archdiocese, and she wrote several religious education books that continue to be used.

SISTER RENEE HUMBLE served as director of nursing, administrator, assistant professor and director at Mercy hospitals in Chicago and Aurora, Ill. In the early 1990s, she was certified as a counselor. She then served as a pastoral associate and spiritual director in Aurora.

SISTER LUCIA LIETSCH taught elementary school for 45 years in the archdioceses of Chicago and Milwaukee and the dioceses of Peoria, Rockford and Joliet, Ill.; Davenport, Iowa; and Madison, Wis. After retiring from teaching in 1991, she continued to serve as a tutor until 2006.

SISTER MAURA LOWREY taught grades one through five in the Archdiocese of Chicago as well as the dioceses of Davenport, Iowa; Peoria, Ill.; and Madison, Wis. She transferred to healthcare, serving on the dietary staff of local Mercy hospitals and as a radiologic technologist for almost 10 years in Davenport, Iowa; Detroit; and Chicago. She then served as a sacristan for many years. Now she volunteers at Mother McAuley High School.

SISTER KATHLEEN McDONOUGH was a teacher, first elementary and then art, for more than 40 years. She served in the archdioceses of Chicago and Milwaukee. She worked at Miscercordia as a member of the professional staff for more than 15 years.

SISTER RITA MOONEY taught elementary grades in the Chicago and Madison, Wis., dioceses for almost 25 years. She became a registered nurse and served at several Mercy hospitals in the Chicago area, spending the majority of her time at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center as a clinical nurse for almost 20 years. She then served as a volunteer at the hospital until the early 2000s.

SISTER MARITA SHAUGHNESSY, a native of Chicago, taught for almost 50 years in the Chicago; Madison, Wis.; and Davenport, Iowa dioceses. Upon retiring from teaching, she served as support staff and was a substitute teacher at Mother McAuley High School for more than 10 years.

60 YEARS

SISTER NANCY CAHILL is a part-time professor of education at St. Xavier University, where she has worked for nearly 40 years. Prior to teaching at the college level, she served as a teacher in the Chicago archdiocese and was a principal in Milwaukee.

SISTER VIRGENA CLARK taught primary grades and First Communion classes in the archdioceses of Chicago and Milwaukee and the Diocese of Rockford. She taught religious education in Wisconsin.

SISTER CAROL GUSSY, a native of Chicago, was a teacher for more than 40 years in the Chicago archdiocese, except for two years when she served in Davenport, Iowa. Upon retiring from full-time teaching, she continued teaching part-time at St. Angela School for almost 10 years.

SISTER MARY HANNON, a native of Chicago, taught in the Archdiocese of Chicago for almost 30 years, including at Mother McAuley High School. In the mid- 1980s, she took up caregiving as her primary ministry and relocated to Tennessee. She serves as a hospital volunteer at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga.

SISTER MARISE KESSLER is a volunteer at St. Angela School. She is a native of Chicago and has served in both education and healthcare. She taught for 10 years in Illinois and then worked in Chicago hospitals for almost 20 years as an x-ray technician and as director of the school of radiology. She also served as a supervisor at Misericordia Homes for more than 20 years.

SISTER SHEILA LYNE, a native of Chicago, retired May 31 as president and CEO of Mercy Hospital and Medical Center in Chicago after having served in this position for 13 consecutive years and 15 years prior. In between her years of service to the hospital, she served as commissioner for the Chicago Department of Health and was a team member of the Chicago Community’s Regional Leadership Team.

SISTER LENORE MULVIHILL, a native of Chicago, has been a volunteer and board member at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center for the past 13 years. She has served the hospital in several capacities since 1976. She was first director of the diagnostic/treatment center and was then appointed vice. After briefly retiring in the early 1990s, she returned to the hospital by working full-time as support staff from 1995 until 2000.

SISTER MARY SHEEHAN taught at Mother McAuley High School in the late 1950s and returned almost 35 years later to serve as operations assistant. In between, she served as a psychologist and administrator. She also taught philosophy at St. Xavier University in the 1960s. She is a native of Chicago.

SISTER MARGARET WRIGHT, a native of Chicago, has been a pharmacy consultant since 1998. Previously, she worked at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center for 20 years and in Aurora for six years. She has also served at the Illinois Department of Public Aid.

50 YEARS

SISTER MARION CYPSER has been principal of St. Catherine-St. Lucy School, Oak Park, since 1978. Prior, she was principal at Little Flower and was co-principal at Resurrection. She has also taught at St. Joseph, Libertyville, and St. Raymond de Penafort, Mount Prospect.

SISTER CARLOTTA OBERZUT, a Chicago native, is a counselor/administrative assistant at St. Martin de Porres House of Hope. She served on the Sisters of Mercy Regional Community of Chicago Leadership Team. Prior to serving in leadership, she ministered in pastoral counseling, parish ministry and was a teacher.

SISTER ROSE WIOREK is a transcription editor for higher education. Before that she served as principal at Mother McAuley High School for 10 years, after having served as dean for 17 years. She was a formation minister during the 1970s, first at the regional level and then at the national level. She began her ministry work as a guidance counselor at Mother McAuley.

SISTER DOLORES ZUREK, a native of Chicago, has worked in education and healthcare. She’s been a health benefits coordinator for 13 years. In this capacity, she works in sister support services for the Chicago-area sisters of the Sisters of Mercy West Midwest Community.

Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur

70 YEARS

SISTER MAUREEN BROGAN was a teacher and reading consultant. She served at St. Peter Canisius; DePaul University’s Teachers Clinic/Learning Disabled and was a supervisor of its student teachers. She also worked as a docent at Old St. Patrick Church. She does ministry of prayer and lives in Cincinnati.

SISTER MARY BUCKLEY, a Chicago native, was a teacher. She served at Notre Dame High School and is a tutor and volunteer in Cincinnati.

60 YEARS

SISTER MARY LOU STOFFEL, a Chicago native, has been a teacher and school administrator. She worked at St. Robert Bellarmine for 11 years and teaches remedial reading for students at St. Ferdinand School.

SISTER JEANNE MARIE SUERTH, a Chicago native, was a teacher and principal. She served at St. Robert Bellarmine; in Rockford, Ill.; and did home repairs for the elderly with Sr. Jeanne on the Scene in Chicago. She now does ministry of prayer and community service in Cincinnati.

Resurrection Sisters

80 YEARS
SISTER LYDIA MARY YOKIEL was a teacher and principal and worked in health care and spiritual services. She served at St. Thecla, St. Mary of the Angels, Resurrection High School, St. Casimir High School, Rresurrection Medical Center and Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center. She is retired.
70 YEARS

SISTER CECILIANNE NARLOCK ministered in child day care and education. She served at St. Casimir; St. Mary of the Angels; Resurrection Child Day Care Center; St. Bede, Ingleside; and in Nebraska and North Dakota. She is retired.

SISTER MARY LOYOLA RESZKA worked in education and community service and served on the provincial council as superior and novice directress. She served at St. Casimir, St. Thecla, St. Mary of the Angels, Resurrection College Prep High School and in Florida. She is her Resurrection community’s provincial archivist.

60 YEARS

SISTER ANDREW DONOHUE, from St. Priscilla Parish, worked in elementary and high school education, child day care and as a librarian. She served at St. Mary of the Angels, St. Casimir, Queen of the Rosary, Resurrection Day Care Center and in Nebraska and Alabama. She is retired.

SISTER CLARA FRANCES KUSEK worked in health care, administration, pastoral care and community service and as a mission leader, provincial councilor and local superior. She served at Resurrection Medical Center, Resurrection Health Care and Presence Health. She is a sponsor representative for Presence Health System.

50 YEARS

SISTER GLORIA MARIE FOX, from St. Casimir Parish, worked in education, service to the poor and elderly, an Argentinian orphanage and in community service and was a local superior. She served at St. Casimir; St. Thecla; Queen of the Rosary, Elk Grove Village; St. Bede, Ingleside; Resurrection Child Day Care Center; and in Indiana, Florida, Alabama and Argentina. She now does mission and community services at the Resurrection Provincial Home.

SISTER MARY LEONETTE KLAFETTA, from St. Eugene Parish, worked in education, health care and community service and as a local superior. She served at St. Casimir, St. Thecla, Resurrection Medical Center, Our Lady of the Resurrection, Resurrection Life Center and in Florida. She now does spiritual services at Resurrection Life Center.

SISTER CAROLYN SNIEGOWSKI, from St. Cornelius Parish, worked in education, school administration and health care and was on the provincial council, a local superior and provincial secretary. She served at St. Casimir; St. Thecla; Queen of the Rosary, Elk Grove Village; Misericordia South; Misericordia North; and in North Dakota and Nebraska. She still serves at Misericordia.

SISTER MARY MARIA KURPIEWSKA works in health care. She did nursing in Poland and now serves at St. Benedict Nursing Home, Niles.

SISTER ARLENE LEVITZKE, a Chicago native, was an educator and director of religious education. She served at St. Alphonsus; St. Stanislaus Kostka; St. Benedict, Blue Island; St. John De La Salle; in Wonder Lake and Streator, Ill.; and in Wisconsin. She is retired in Chicago.

SISTER IRENE BOPP, a Chicago native, was an educator, administrator and provincial leader. She served at the Provincialate; the Archdiocese of Chicago; in Peoria, Ill.; and in Wisconsin. She lives in retirement in Chicago.

SISTER MARGARET BRINKMAN, a Chicago native, worked in health care, nursing, administration and teaching. She served at St. Joseph’s Home for the Aged, Presbyterian-St. Luke Hospital, Academy of Our Lady Convent; Society of Helpers, SSND-Chicago Province and in Wisconsin. She is retired in Chicago.

SISTER JEANNE McGUE, a Chicago native, was an educator, director of religious education, musician and organist. She served at Academy of Our Lady Convent and School; All Saints; in Wonder Lake, Sycamore, Genoa and DeKalb, Ill.; and in Missouri, Wisconsin and Indiana. She is retired in Homer Glen.

SISTER GLORIA ROSALES, a Chicago native, worked in education, administration and counseling, and as a librarian and tutor. She served at St. Ambrose; Nipper School, Park Ridge; St. Margaret of Scotland; in Sycamore and Decatur, Ill.; and in Wisconsin, Michigan and Florida. She is retired in Homer Glen.

SISTER JOANNA BRIGAN, a Chicago native, was a dietician and homemaker. She served at Academy of Our Lady Convent; St. Anthony; St. Alphonsus; and in Freeport and DeKalb, Ill. She is retired in Homer Glen. Sister Lucy was an educator, pastoral associate and congregational leader. She served at Queen of Peace, North Chicago; at the Provincialate, Berwyn; St. Ambrose; Academy of Our Lady; in Wisconsin; and in Peru and Rome. She is a tutor and volunteer at Corazon a Corazon.

SISTER JOAN O’CONNELL, a Chicago native, was an educator, congregational leader and business manager. She served at Holy Cross, River Grove; Madonna High School; at the Provincialate, Berwyn; Marillac High School; Presentation Continuing Education Center; Queen of Peace, Burbank; Academy of Our Lady; St. Alphonsus; and in Wisconsin. She now is a bookkeeper in North Riverside.

SISTER LUPITA MARIE CORDERO, a Blue Island native, worked in education and administration. She served at St. Stanislaus Kostka; St. Ambrose; St. Kevin; St. Procopius; Our Lady of Vilna; St. Michael; Caroline Community and Corazon a Corazon, where she is an ESL coordinator.

SISTER CATHERINE SARTHER was an educator, administrator, researcher and congregational leader. She served at the Provincialate, Berwyn; University of Chicago; in Chicago Public Schools; Academy of Our Lady; St. Michael; St. John De La Salle; at the Generalate, Rome; and in Wisconsin. She is the assistant to the Dean of Advising, Notre Dame of Maryland University.

25 YEARS

SISTER ARLENE GIBSON was a business manager and administrator. She served at St. Leonard’s Ministries; Horizon Hospice; St. Benedict Home, Niles; Queen of Peace High School, Burbank; and St. Rosalie Covent, Harwood Heights. She is the finance director for the School Sisters of Notre Dame.
