JUBILARIANS 2013

Each year we honor the men celebrating jubilees who have dedicated themselves to serving the Lord through his Catholic Church. They often wear many hats, such as priest, administrator, maintenance man, cook, accountant, friend. They have served mostly as parish priests, with some also serving as teachers, chaplains and counselors. The Catholic New World congratulates and thanks them.

75th Anniversary

Msgr. Francis Maniola

100, attended Maternity B.V.M. School, Quigley Preparatory Seminary and University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary. He taught at Quigley Preparatory Seminary (1940- 1967) and resided at St. Agatha, Christ the King, Presentation BVM, Queen of Angels and Our Lady of Mount Carmel. He was pastor of St. Symphorosa Parish (1966-1981) and he continues to reside there. (See story)

50th Anniversary

Father James Colleran

75, attended St. Ignatius School, Quigley Preparatory Seminary and University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary and he has a master’s degree in industrial relations from Loyola University Chicago. He was associate pastor at St. Bonaventure (1963-1969), administrator at St. Vitus (1969-1993), associate pastor at Our Lady of Lourdes (1983-1995); co-pastor of Parroquia Santiago (1995-1999) and pastor of St. Mary of the Lake. He also spent a six-month sabbatical in Florence, Italy, studying painting, and he now paints full time.

Father Robert G. Darow

75, attended St. Helen School, Quigley Preparatory Seminary, and University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary. He also has a master’s degree in communications from Northwestern University. He served as associate pastor at St. Michael, 8235 South Shore Drive (1963-1966); St. Thecla (1966-1974); St. John of the Cross, Western Springs (1974-1975); St. Cornelius (1975-1981); and St. Ladislaus (1981-1984). He was pastor at St. Hilary (1984-2007).

Cardinal Francis George

76, attended St. Pascal School and St. Henry Preparatory Seminary in Belleville, Ill. He entered the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate in 1957 and was ordained a priest on Dec. 21, 1963. He was provincial superior of the Midwestern Province for the Oblates in St. Paul, Minn. (1973-1974) and vicar general of the Oblates and served in Rome (1974-1986). He served as bishop of Yakima, Wash. (1990-1996) and archbishop of Portland, Ore. (1996-1997), before becoming archbishop of Chicago in 1997 and being elevated to cardinal in 1998. He served as president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (2007-2010). The Catholic New World will have more coverage of Cardinal’s George’s anniversary in December.

Father William Mannion

75, attended St. Dorothy School, Quigley Preparatory Seminary and University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary. He earned a doctorate in ministry from Mundelein. He served as associate pastor at St. Emeric, Country Club Hills (1963-1964); Holy Name Cathedral (1967-1975); St. Christina (1975-1977); and St. John of the Cross, Western Springs (1977-1988). He was pastor of St. Athanasius, Evanston (1989-1998) and Our Lady of Hope, Rosemont (1988-2008). He also served as executive secretary of the priest placement office (1977-1981).

Father Richard Mueller

76, attended Little Flower School, Quigley Preparatory Seminary and University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary. He also received master’s degrees in counseling psychology and religious education from Loyola University Chicago, and in applied spirituality from the University of St. Francis, and a doctorate in ministry from Mundelein. He served as associate pastor at St. Bernadette, Evergreen Park (1963-1967); Immaculate Conception, 1431 N. North Park Ave. (1967-1968) and St. Luke, River Forest (1992-1995). He was chaplain at the Sheil Center at Northwestern University (1968-1973) and on the faculty of Niles College Seminary (1973- 1992). He was pastor of St. Norbert, Northbrook (1995- 2007) and continues to serve there as senior priest. He also has served as the director of INSEARCH, a formation program for post-college age men discerning a vocation to the priesthood since 1991. He will celebrate his anniversary at a Mass June 9 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Norbert.

Father Raymond Yadron

75, was born in East Chicago, Ind., and attended Ascension School in Harvey, Quigley Preparatory Seminary and University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary. He served as associate pastor at All Saints (1963-1965); St. Joseph the Worker, Wheeling (1965- 1971); St. Monica (1971-1978); St. Henry (1978-1980); St. Thomas of Villanova, Palatine (1980-1985); and Our Lady of Knock, Calumet City (1991-1994). He was pastor of Queen of Apostles (1984-1991) and St. Thomas of Villanova (1994-2006). He also worked with Marriage Encounter and was a spiritual director for Christ Renews His Parish.

25th Anniversary

Father Thaddeus Dziesko

was born in Poland and studied for the priesthood in Bialystock, Poland, and at Ss. Cyril and Methodius Seminary in Orchard Lake, Mich. He served as associate pastor at St. Constance Parish (1989-1995) and St. Ferdinand (1995-1997) and pastor of St. Mary of Czestochowa, Cicero (1997-2003) and St. Constance (2003-present).

Father Timothy Fairman

50, was born in Milwaukee and attended Our Lady Help of Christians School in Chicago, Quigley Preparatory Seminary North, Niles College and the University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary. He was associate pastor of Our Lady of Humility, Zion (1988- 1996), and St. James, Arlington Heights (1996-2002) before being named pastor of St. Bede, Ingleside, where he still ministers. He will celebrate his anniversary with a Mass June 2 at 2 p.m. at St. Bede.

Father Ryszard Gron

serves as associate pastor of St. Constance Parish and is a former staff writer for Katolik, the Polish- language newspaper of the Archdiocese of Chicago that was published 2007-2013. He also served as formation director at Bishop Abramovich Seminary, for seminarians from Poland studying for the priesthood here, and at St. Thomas of Villanova Parish, Palatine (2008-2010).

Father Wojciech Artur Marat

51, was born and raised in Bialystock, Poland, and was ordained a priest for the archdiocese there. He holds degrees in canon law from the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin. He served as associate pastor of three parishes in Poland before coming to Chicago. Here, he served as associate pastor of St. Richard (2002-2005), St. John Fisher (2005- 2009) and St. Thecla (2011-present). In Poland, he served as chaplain to the Bialystock associations of Catholic doctors (1998-2000) and lawyers (2000-2002) and as adjutant judicial vicar and judge of the metropolitan tribunal (2000- 2002). In the Archdiocese of Chicago, he has served as defender of the bond for the metropolitan tribunal (2003-2006, 2022-present) and as a judge on the metropolitan tribunal (2006-2011), and he is a member of the canon law societies of both the United States and Poland. He will celebrate his anniversary with a Mass in Poland on June 16, an English Mass on June 22 at 5 p.m. at St. Thecla and a Polish Mass June 23 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Thecla.

Father Michael McMahon

61, was born in Evanston and attended St. Raymond de Penafort School in Mount Prospect, St. Viator High School in Arlington Heights and DePaul University before entering the University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary. He served as associate pastor of St. Priscilla (1988-1993); St. Mary, Lake Forest (1993-1998); St. Luke, River Forest (1998-2003); and St. Mary, Buffalo Grove (2003-2009). He has been pastor of St. Peter, Antioch, since 2009. He will celebrate his anniversary with a Mass at St. Peter on May 26 at 11:30 a.m.

Father Marc Reszel

51, attended Lyons Township High School, Niles College and the University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary. He was associate pastor of Our Lady of Victory (1988-1993) and Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Glenview (1993-1999) and pastor of St. Mary, Buffalo Grove (1999-2012). He has been pastor of St. Hugh, Lyons, since 2012. He will celebrate his anniversary at a May 19 Mass at St. Hugh at 10:30 a.m.

Father Mark Walter

52, was born in Midlothian and attended Chicago public elementary schools, St. Laurence High School, St. Xavier University and University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary. He served as associate pastor at St. Catherine of Alexandria, Oak Lawn (1988-1990); St. Elizabeth Seton, Orland Hills (1990-1991); Our Lady of Loretto, Hometown (1991-1996); and Most Holy Redeemer, Evergreen Park (2002-2004). He has been pastor of St. Christopher, Midlothian, since 2004, and he has served as chaplain at Brother Rice High School.

Father Michael Zaniolo

54, attended St. Ferdinand School and St. Patrick High School before getting a degree in electrical engineering at the Illinois Institute of Technology and then studying theology at University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary. He served as associate pastor at St. Thecla (1988-1989); St. William (1989-1996); and St. Andrew, Calumet City (1996-2001) before becoming chaplain at the O’Hare and Midway airport chapels, where he still serves while residing at St. Stephen Protomartyr Parish, Des Plaines. He also served part-time in the vocations office (1991-1998); as a part-time master of ceremonies for Cardinal George and his predecessor, Cardinal Joseph Bernardin (1994-1998); on the Presbyteral Council (2001-present); as president of the National Conference of Catholic Airport Chaplains (2005-present); as administrator of the Interfaith Airport Chapels of Chicago (2001-present) and as a member of the International Association of Civil Aviation Chaplains (2001-present).
