Each year we honor the men celebrating jubilees who have dedicated themselves to serving the Lord through his Catholic Church. They often wear many hats, such as priest, administrator, maintenance man, cook, accountant, friend. They have served mostly as parish priests, with some also serving as teachers, chaplains and counselors. The Catholic New World congratulates and thanks them. 50th Anniversary Father Michael A. Goergen 75, attended St. John Bosco School before entering the archdiocesan seminary system. He served as associate pastor at St. Eulalia, Maywood (1962- 1967); Queen of All Saints (1967-1974); Queen of the Universe (1974-1980) and St. Christina (1980-1982). He was pastor of St. Nicholas of Tolentine (1982-1994) and St. Robert Bellarmine (1995-2006). He has resided at St. Bartholomew since he retired. Father Gerald F. Mulcahy 75, attended St. Frances of Rome School, Cicero, before entering the archdiocesan seminary system. He served as associate pastor at St. Edward (1962-1968); St. Louise de Marillac, LaGrange Park (1968- 1973); Queen of All Saints (1973-1980); St. Monica (1980- 1981); St. Mary, Riverside (1981-1986) and St. Giles, Oak Park (1986-1989). He was pastor of St. Patricia, Hickory Hills (1989-2007) and dean of Vicariate V-Deanery D (1989-2007). Father Robert H. Oldershaw 75, attended St. Mary School, Evanston, and Loyola Academy before entering the archdiocesan seminary system at Quigley Preparatory Seminary. He was associate pastor at St. Thomas the Apostle (1962-1973), Holy Name Cathedral (1973-1981) and St. Clement (1981-1988). He was pastor of St. Nicholas, Evanston (1988-2006). He also served as the associate director for music in the Office for Divine Worship (1975-1985). Father Edwin Pacocha 76, attended St. John Berchmans School before entering the archdiocesan seminary system. He was associate pastor at St. Priscilla (1962-1967); St. Mary of Czestochowa, Cicero (1967-1969); St. Mary, Buffalo Grove (1969-1976); St. John Vianney, Northlake (1973- 1983); and St. Paul of the Cross, Park Ridge (1983-1986). He was pastor of St. Cornelius (1986-2008). Father Paul Reicher 74, attended St. Basil School, Quigley Preparatory Seminary, University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary and the Gregorian University in Rome before being ordained Dec. 19, 1962. He also holds a master’s degree in religious education from Loyola University Chicago. He served as associate pastor at St. Joseph, Libertyville (1963-1967) and St. Lucy (1967-1971). He was pastor of St. James, Maywood (1971-1988); St. Luke, River Forest (1988-2000); and Notre Dame de Chicago (2001-2007). He served in the religious education office (1967-1971) in addition to his parish duties. He now resides at St. John Berchmans. Father John Smyth attended St. Genevieve School, DePaul Academy and the University of Notre Dame, where he was an All-American in basketball, before entering University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary. After ordination, he was assigned to Maryville Academy and became the facility’s executive director in 1970. In his 42 years at Maryville, he first established a fundraising system that ended its reliance on archdiocesan funds and then expanded its mission to care for children from newborns through teens who were suffering from family violence, substance abuse and other problems. He stepped down as Maryville’s president in 2004, founded the Standing Tall Charitable Foundation in 2005 and in 2007 was named president of Notre Dame College Prep. Father Thomas A. Tivy 75, attended Our Lady of Mercy School before entering the archdiocesan seminary system. He holds a licentiate in canon law from the Lateran University in Rome along with his degrees from University of St. Mary of the Lake. He served as associate pastor at St. Lambert, Skokie (1962-1966); St Hilary (1968-1976); St. Gregory (1976-1982) and St. Sylvester (1982-1984). He served as pastor of Our Lady of Grace (1984-2002) and at Resurrection Parish (2004-2009). He also served on the marriage tribunal (1968-1984) as vicar for priests (2002-2004) and as administrator at St. Thomas of Canterbury, St. Philomena, Our Lady of the Snows and St. Adalbert. 25th Anniversary Father Jacque B. Beltran 51, was born and educated in the Philippines, and was ordained Dec. 10, 1987 after attending Immaculate Conception School of Theology in Vigan in the Philippines. He served as associate pastor at St. Peter’s Cathedral (1987-1992) and pastor of St. Isidore Parish (1992- 1999) in the Archdiocese of Tuguegarao, where he also was the archdiocesan youth director and director of the Indigenous People’s Apostolate. He served as associate pastor of Sacred Heart, Winnetka (1999-2001) and St. Mary, Evanston (2000-2001), the associate dean of formation at Mundelein Seminary (2001-2012) and will become pastor of Most Blessed Trinity Parish, Waukegan in July. He will celebrate his anniversary Dec. 9 at the 10:30 a.m. Mass at Most Blessed Trinity. Father Thomas P. Conde 56, attended St. Mary of the Lake School in Gary, Ind.; Andrean High School in Merrillville, Ind.; and St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Ind., before entering the University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary. He also holds an MBA in marketing from Roosevelt University Chicago. He served as associate pastor at St. Joseph, Libertyville (1987-1992); pastor at St. James, Sauk Village (1993-2003); vocation director and comptroller at St. Joseph College Seminary (2003-2007); and pastor at Christ the King (2007-present). He also has served as a Sunday supply priest at St. Paul, Chicago Heights (2002-2007); dean of Vicariate V-Deanery C (2009-present); and as a field advocate with the marriage tribunal (1988-present). He will celebrate his anniversary May 20 at the 11 a.m. Mass at Christ the King, with a reception to follow. Father James J. Donovan 50, attended Our Lady of Victory School; Loyola Academy, Wilmette; and Northern Illinois University before entering Niles College Seminary and then the University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary. He also holds a master’s degree in Christian spirituality from Creighton University. He served as associate pastor at St. Anastasia, Waukegan (1987-1993) and Our Lady of Ransom, Niles (1993-1999). He was pastor of Our Lady of Loretto, Hometown (1999-2008) and has resided at St. Barnabas since then, while serving as secretary of the Priests’ Placement Board. He will celebrate his anniversary May 27 at 2 p.m. at St. Barnabas. Father Waldemar Kilian 52, was born in Poland and educated for the priesthood in Rome, He was ordained in Rome in 1987 for the Oblates of St. Joseph. He arrived in Chicago in 1990 and was associate pastor at St. Thecla (1990-1994) and St. Cyprian, River Grove (1994-2003). He was pastor of St. Bruno (2003-2009). During that time, he served as a chaplain in the Navy Reserves and was deployed to Iraq for nine months in 2005 with the 2nd Marine Division. He now is on active duty and serves as the Command Chaplain at Naval Station Great Lakes. Father Michael L. Zoufal 51, attended Komarek Grade School, Riverside-Brookfield High School and Loyola University Chicago before entering University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary. He has served as associate pastor at St. Cornelius (1987-1988); St. Ferdinand (1988-1992); St. Damian, Oak Forest (1992-1994) and Our Lady of Knock, Calumet City (1994-1999). He has served as pastor at St. Blase, Argo (1999-2011) and St. Albert the Great, Burbank (2011-present).
