Catholics will join all other Americans in praying for the victims of 9/11, their families and others affected by the attacks at Mass on Sept. 11. Several parishes and schools will hold special services to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the attacks. Among them are: St. Elizabeth Seton Parish in Orland Hills will host a “Hope and Remembrance” concert of patriotic and sacred music with their parish’s 30-piece orchestra and 60 choir members in a 9/11 tribute at 3 p.m. in the church. The event includes liturgical dancers, a color guard of Scouts and a military representative from each of the services. St. William Parish, 2600 N. Sayre, will hold a prayer service at 3 p.m. for the living and dead, for families, first responders and others affected by the attacks. St. Martha Parish in Morton Grove will participate in a special nondenominational “community chorus” concert at a memorial service Sept. 11 “afternoon.” St. Martha parishioners also were asked to write reflections on how 9/11 impacted their lives to be printed in a booklet distributed that day. St. George Parish in Tinley Park will have a commemorative float in the community’s 9/11 parade with the names and pictures of parishioners in military service. A service is part of the event. Loyola University Chicago planned a number of events from Sept. 10-15 to commemorate the anniversary. They include: Sept. 11: All day remembrance on the quad between Dumbach Hall and Cudahy Library on Loyola’s Lake Shore Campus Mass at 10:30 a.m. in the Madonna della Strada Chapel on Loyola University Chicago’s Lake Shore Campus, 6429 N. Kenmore Candlelight Vigil Commemoration Service at 8 p.m. in the East Quad on Loyola University Chicago’s Lake Shore Campus, 1032 W. Sheridan Road Student Group Rambler Rowdies: 10-Year Anniversary Soccer Tailgate noon-4 p.m. at Loyola Soccer Park, 6336 N. Hoyne. During the tailgate, the Rambler Rowdies will pass out “Rambler Rowdies Remember” pins, and they will film messages to the troops from tailgate participants.
