Coalition’s posada supports new migrants

About 100 leaders from St. Oscar Romero, Our Lady of Africa and other Catholic parishes joined community organizations for a posada to welcome migrants at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 4517 S. Ashland Ave., on Dec. 6, 2023. Participants are members of the Coalition for Spiritual & Public Leadership, a faith-based community organizing coalition of 40 parishes and organizations that works across the city and western suburbs to advance social, racial and economic justice. Posada is a Mexican tradition honoring the story of Joseph and Mary seeking shelter before the birth of Jesus. They knocked on doors seeking shelter under topics welcoming Chicago, youth mental health and affordable childcare. (Karen Callaway/Chicago Catholic)
