World Day of Prayer for Creation
Local Catholics and Greek Orthodox faithful came together to celebrate the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation held Aug. 31, 2017 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Glenview. Pope Francis instituted this day in 2015 with the patriarch of Constantinople. (Karen Callaway/Chicago Catholic)
Bishop Demetrios of Mokissos, chancellor of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago, and Father Thomas Baima, archdiocesan vicar for ecumenical and interreligious affairs, sing at the end of the third annual Solemn Vespers for the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Glenview on Aug. 31. Auxiliary Bishop Francis Kane presided. Pope Francis instituted Sept. 1 as the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation for Catholics in 2015. This local event was inspired by the international one where the pope and the patriarch of Constantinople have celebrated the day together. (Karen Callaway/Chicago Catholic)
