Parishioners and school families of Immaculate Conception and St. Joseph Parish gathered after Mass in the church hall to assemble hot lunches for migrants and asylees staying at Chicago Police Department’s 18th District on Oct. 15, 2023. Each lunch bag had a welcome greeting written on it and individually wrap meals consisting of hot pulled pork sandwiches, cornbread, slices of pumpkin cake, granola bars and bottles of water. As of Oct. 7, the number of migrants living at the police station has climbed to 200. (Karen Calla-way/Chicago Catholic)
