Remembering the OLA fire
Father Gary Graf, pastor of San José Sánchez del Río Parish and chaplain for the Chicago Fire Department, celebrated a Mass in memory of the Our Lady of the Angels School fire at Holy Family Church, 1080 W. Roosevelt Road, on Nov. 29, 2020. The fire occurred on Dec. 1, 1958, and killed 92 students and three teaching nuns. The fire also resulted in sweeping changes to fire safety in schools across the country.
