Pope Day
Students from Everest Academy in Lemont celebrated "Pope Day" on April 19. "Pope Day" is an annual event at the school where students learn about who the pope is and what he does as a spiritual leader. A student is selected to be the pope based on his character, spirituality and dedication to serving others.
Surrounded by "security," Nathaniel Akroush, dressed as Pope Francis, makes his way through the halls. (Karen Callaway / Catholic New World)
Mary Therese Lawler cheers for Nathaniel Akroush, dressed as Pope Francis, as he makes his way through the halls. (Karen Callaway / Catholic New World)
Hannah Akroush and Kate Beecher cheer, and Marino Ramirez holds a prayer card of the real Pope Francis as their classmate makes his way through the halls pretending to be the pontiff. (Karen Callaway / Catholic New World)
