Mission trips bring youth closer to Christ through service

Teenagers from around the Archdiocese of Chicago spend time every summer getting away from home, not for rest and relaxation, but to help people in need and to focus on their relationship with Christ at the same time. Youth ministers who have led such trips say they see the transformation in the young people they bring over just a few days, both as leaders on their service projects and in their faith.

Archdiocese ordains three priests for ministry

Cardinal Cupich ordained Conrad E. Espino, 27, from Manila, Philippines, Raymond J. Grieshaber, 38, from Evanston, and John Rahimi, 29, from Palatine, for the Archdiocese of Chicago on June 20, 2026, at Holy Name Cathedral, 735 N. State St., Chicago. Each newly ordained priest has completed at least six years of human, spiritual, academic and pastoral formation, which included an exhaustive study of philosophy, Catholic theology, the history of the church and pastoral practice. As part of their seminary education, future priests are assigned to work at parishes, schools and hospitals as they develop their capacity to be shepherds of God’s people. Venezuelan Catholics gather to pray for earthquake victims, survivors

Father Sergio Rivas, pastor, was the main celebrant for a special Spanish language Mass at St. Mary of the Lake Church on June 28, 2026, to pray for the people of Venezuela following the devastating earthquake. Marist senior collects luggage to ease burdens for foster children

Marist High School senior, Eagle Scout candidate, and Christ the King parishioner Grayson Herr sorts through donated luggage at Christ the King Parish on June 21, 2026. For many foster children, moving from one home to another can mean carrying their belongings in garbage bags, and often, those garbage bags may have trash in them. Archdiocese dedicates first-ever memorial to those lost to suicide

St Francis Parish hosts relic of its patron

Parishioners and guests visited a first-class relic of St. Francis of Assisi at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Orland Park following a noon Mass on June 28, 2026. The public could venerate the relic until evening vespers. St. Francis of Assisi Parish is an archdiocesan pilgrimage site for the Jubilee Year of St. Francis, observed through Jan. 10, 2027, marking the 800th anniversary of the passing of St. Francis of Assisi, a Catholic friar who founded the religious order of the Franciscans. Pope Leo XIV proclaimed the special Jubilee year inviting the faithful to reflect on the life and enduring legacy of St. Francis whose profound commitment to the Gospel, love for the poor and reverence for all of creation continues to inspire Christians eight centuries later. Chicago hosted international Eucharistic Congress 100 years ago

St. Fabian parishioners celebrate Corpus Christi in Polish style

Parishioners from St. Fabian Parish in Bridgeview take part in a Corpus Christi Eucharistic procession through the neighborhood around the parish on June 7, 2026. The procession stopped at four altars — three outside homes and one outside the church — that symbolize the four Gospels. Polish Highlanders led the procession followed by others dressed in Polish ethnic attire who carried statues of Mary, an icon of Our Lady of Czestochowa and images of St. John Paul II and Blessed Jerzy Aleksander Popiełuszko, a Polish priest murdered by the Communist Security Service in 1984 for his support of freedom.
