Outreach to parishioners of all abilities nets $1,000 in grants

Pathways.org Inclusion In Worship is recognizing the following parishes and ministries with grants of up to $1,000 for their efforts to welcome individuals of all abilities: St. Catherine Laboure, Glenview St. James, Arlington Heights St. John Berchmans, Chicago Commission on Mental Illness, Chicago Mustard Seed Conference, Greeley Center for Catholic Education, Chicago. 

St. Catherine Laboure parish provides accessible parking spaces, curb cuts, automatic door openers, accessible washrooms, low gluten hosts, large print missallettes and hearing devices. The parish will use their $1,000 grant to provide hearing devices in meeting rooms.

“As the Inclusion Representative for St. Catherine Laboure, I am extremely grateful to Pathways.org Inclusion In Worship for the financial assistance as well as the educational materials, lesson plans and Inclusion Awareness Day planning materials available at www.InclusionInWorship.org," said Janice Seipp.

Accessible parking spaces, a ground level, canopied entrance, hearing loop, accessible restrooms, pew cut outs and an elevator are among the accessible features of the Open Hearts Award winning renovation design at St. James Catholic Church, Arlington Heights.

"The Open Hearts Award grant supports our desire to preserve and honor the dignity of all. We are grateful to Pathways for this recognition,” stated Fr. Matt Foley, pastor.

St. John Berchmans Catholic Church will use their Open Hearts Award grant to upgrade the washroom nearest the worship space.

The Andrew M. Greeley Center for Catholic Education will use a $1,000 Open Hearts Award grant to support the annual Mustard Seed Project Conference on best practices in inclusive education in Catholic schools.

The Commission on Mental Illness will use a grant to purchase workbooks for a series of parish workshops supporting parishioners with mental health concerns and their families.
