Beauty & the Sacred Discussed at Chicago Conference

Attendees listen to a conference in the Grand Ballroom of The Drake Hotel.
Renowned philosopher, Sir Roger Scruton, was the keynote speaker.

The Catholic Art Guild's first annual conference on Oct. 2 was truly a historic moment for "restoring the Sacred" in the visual arts.

Leading philosophers, artists, and architects gathered at The Drake Hotel to discuss the importance of the classical arts and the nature of Sacred Beauty. The 225 attendees from many parts of the world enjoyed an elegant banquet with a panel discussion by the day's presenters in the beautiful Gold Coast Room.

The panel was led by Denis McNamara, art historian and educator, Sir Roger Scruton, philosopher, Duncan Stroik, classical architect, and Anthony Visco, classical artist. The Catholic Art Guild is a new lay apostolate founded for the 'restoration of the Sacred' in the visual arts.

The guild's mission is to support artists in offering their gifts for the greater glory of God by offering skill-based training, workshops, community, as well as intellectual and philosophical formation. The guild has members all over the US and Canada, but makes its "spiritual home" at St. John Cantius Church.
