St. Michael Orland Park celebrates 150 years

Fellowship after 9 a.m. Mass

This is an exciting year for St. Michael Parish as we celebrate 150 years of being “A Light for all Generations.” To prepare for the next 150 years of worship, we enhanced our worship space with new sound, lights, artwork and sanctuary furnishings.

In November 2016 we pilgrimaged to Rome, Fatima and Lourdes. In January 2017 we held a festive, bi-lingual concert involving all of our choirs. Our anniversary song, “Arise and Let Us Be Like God,” composed by Rory Cooney, was introduced to the delight of all.

April 3-5 our parish mission challenged us to keep our relationships with Jesus the main thing in our lives. The church was packed every night with over 500 people celebrating the sacrament of reconciliation.

On June 4, 100 walkers and our queen, Marie Ahlrep (parishioner since 1924) joined the annual Orland Days parade, evangelizing in the community.

On June 10, we held our 150th anniversary picnic. About 450 people attended, despite the 90 degree day. Aug. 4-6 we participated in the Taste of Orland with more evangelization and kids’ activities.
