Capuchin serving in Chicago celebrates 50th jubilee

Milwaukee, WI (May 15, 2017) Capuchin friars will be commemorating their jubilee celebrations July 21 at St. Lawrence Seminary, Mount Calvary, WI, the founding site of the Capuchin Franciscan Province of St. Joseph. One of the eight jubilarians serves the Chicago Archdiocese. Capuchin Friar Edward Foley is celebrating his 50th year as a Capuchin friar. Fr. Foley has served at Catholic Theological Union since 1984 where he is Duns Scotus Professor of Spirituality and Professor of Liturgy and Music. An internationally recognized scholar who has lectured around the English speaking world and has 26 books to his credits, he has also been a preacher and presider at St. Mary’s parish in Riverside (1994-2005), Ascension parish in Oak Park (2005-2007), and since 2008, has been a regular preacher and presider at Old St. Patrick’s Church, Chicago.

A specialist in worship and the arts, he sits on various editorial and advisory boards. Recently he produced a 4 DVD series on the history of Eucharistic theology. He also is a regular contributor to Give Us This Day from Liturgical Press. Foley is past-president of the North American Academy of Liturgy, a founder and originating member of the executive committee of the Catholic Academy of Liturgy, and former member of the executive committee of the International Academy of Practical Theology.

The Capuchins are an international community of friars modeling themselves after St. Francis of Assisi. The brothers of the Capuchin Province of St. Joseph, headquartered in Detroit, serve in a variety of ministries including social service, schools, chaplaincy, retreat houses and parishes in Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Montana, Arizona, and Panama. Established at Mt. Calvary Wisconsin in 1857, there are currently 169 members in the St. Joseph province.
