Rite of Election 2019

Cardinal Cupich greeted those seeking to become Catholic during the Rite of Election and Call to Continuing Conversion liturgy at Holy Name Cathedral on March 17. During the Rite of Election, catechumens from the Archdiocese of Chicago, their sponsors and families gather at the cathedral, where the catechumens publicly express their desire for baptism. The church then makes its “election” of these catechumens to receive the sacraments of initiation. Their names are recorded in a book and they are called the “elect.” The Call to Continuing Conversion welcomes those who are already baptized and are preparing to complete their initiation through both confirmation and Eucharist.
