The Archdiocese of Chicago launched an iPad app that showcases the architectural beauty, history and treasured art works that form the sacred worship places of Catholics here. Images of interiors and exteriors from more than 350 Catholic churches in Cook and Lake Counties are combined with brief parish descriptions and historical information. Also included are summaries of unique treasures in the churches ranging from stained-glass windows, mosaics and hand-carved altars, to tapestries created from fragments of old vestments and parish gardens. The text and parish photos contained in the app were included in the book “Archdiocese of Chicago, A Journey of Faith,” published in 2006. Archdiocese of Chicago Churches app for iPads is available for purchase at $4.99 from the iTunes App Store. Any proceeds the archdiocese receives from the app will benefit the Cardinal’s Scholarship Fund. This app is part of the archdiocese’s Department for Communications’ ongoing social media efforts, which include Twitter,Facebook, YouTube and the Cardinal’s Network.
