Cardinal George greets parishioners following Mass on Aug. 30, 2008 at Holy Name Cathedral. This was the first Mass since the cathedral closed for repairs last February. The cathedral closed when forensic engineers determined that structural weakness was the cause of a 10-pound piece of decorative wood falling from the ceiling during the night of Feb.12. The Cathedral will be open on a limited basis during weekdays while miscellaneous repairs continue. Over 23,000 hand-carved wooden points that decorate the interior ceiling were polished and secured as part of the renovation. (Karen Callaway, Catholic New World)
