Vatican dicastery announces formation of new youth advisory body
The Dicastery for Laity, the Family and Life announced it is setting up a specialized team of young Catholic leaders as advisers. The new international advisory body was established following a proposal in the final document of the 2018 Synod of Bishops on Young People, Faith and Vocational Discernment. The Vatican made the announcement Nov. 24, the feast of Christ the King.
Church, world need the gifts, enthusiasm of young people, pope says
The life of a young person and the vocation to which God calls each one is "holy ground" that pastors and parents must respect, nurture and encourage, Pope Francis wrote in a new apostolic exhortation.
Pope to young people: Mary inspires, assists those seeking their vocation
Signing his document dedicated to young people, faith and discernment, Pope Francis said Mary, the mother of God, is a source of inspiration and strength for everyone who seeks to understand their vocation and remain faithful to it.
A pilgrim church
Last month’s Synod on Youth, in which I participated, gave the church an opportunity to reflect on what it means for us to be a pilgrim people, marching through time to proclaim the kingdom of God. After all, the word “synod” derives from the Greek words “syn” and “hodos,” which mean “traveling on the way with others.” At one point in our discussions, it was suggested that we actually make a pilgrimage as a group in the city of Rome.
Synod fathers: Church and world need young people's involvement
Writing to the world's young people, members of the Synod of Bishops said they wanted to encourage them and help them fulfill their dreams, and they prayed that their own failings would not drive the young from the church.
Chicago young adult addresses synod in Rome
One U.S. observer warned Pope Francis and the Synod of Bishops that the current immigration system in the United States “blatantly threatens” and disrespects the lives and dignity of migrants.
Youth gather for local discussion on synod themes
Dozens of high school students who gathered for an Oct. 20 listening session with Auxiliary Bishop Ron Hicks, the vicar general, said they are looking for ways to live their faith in a world that has become more secular.
Conscience and Synod on Youth
As I write, a monthlong synod — a church assembly that can be regional or international — is being held to discuss how the church can better accompany young people.
Pope Francis convenes bishops for monthlong synod on youth
A church unable to listen “cannot be credible,” Pope Francis told bishops from across the world who have gathered in Rome for a synod on youth Oct. 3-28.
Honesty, gratitude to God are basis of credibility, Cardinal Cupich tells synod
Unless they recognize themselves as sinners rescued by Jesus, adults cannot be effective in helping young people find the path to faith and doing God's will, Cardinal Cupich told the Synod of Bishops.
