Habit forming
I slept later than I meant to today, and when I did get up, I was facing a full slate of Things That Must Be Done.
Something new
Our crocuses bloomed really early this year. In February, if you can believe it. Well, Feb. 29, so in most years it would have been March.
Spring training
I spent three and a half days in March in Arizona, watching baseball, going to museums and walking around on desert mountainsides with my oldest daughter, who took me on the trip as a Christmas present.
How far would you go?
The other day, my husband asked me whether I would sit outside a grocery store and beg for money if it was the only way I could feed my children.
God grant me ...
We’ve all heard the truism that if you ask God for patience, God will give you opportunities to practice it.
In the wee small hours
I like to sleep. When my kids ask what my favorite thing to do is, I often tell them that my favorite thing is to sleep.
What are you giving up?
It’s that time of year again. The time of year when Catholics ask each other what they are giving up for Lent.
Happy Catholic Schools Week, everyone!
This year’s National Catholic Schools Week runs Jan. 28 to Feb. 3. The National Catholic Education Association set the theme of “Catholic Schools: United in Faith and Community.”
The places in between
It might be a guilty secret, but I love waiting. Maybe not so much waiting in line, where I have to stand up and pay attention to the people around me so as to keep the line moving, but waiting in a doctor’s office — so long as I’m not there for anything especially scary — or in an airport or train station or, when my kids have had various activities, in the lobby of an ice rink or pool complex or in my car out in the parking lot.
Where’s the baby?
When do you put the baby Jesus in your Nativity scene? Do you include the infant in the manger when you set the Nativity scene up? If you set it up before Christmas Eve, that is. Or do you hold off and let the Christ child make his grand entrance on Christmas morning?
