Students at St. Thomas the Apostle School, 5467 S. Woodlawn Ave., try out the new playground equipment following a blessing and dedication on April 19, 2021. The school did not have playground equipment before. Instead, students played in the parking lot. As enrollment continued to grow, the parking lot became more crowded and was not a viable option for recess. The playground was made possible by donations from local businesses, school families, alumni, friends and parishioners of St. Thomas the Apostle.

Marian’s Sister Mary Jo using newfound fame to talk about God Before she was a sister, Sister Mary Jo Sobieck was an athlete. Sister Mary Jo, 50, started playing softball, basketball and volleyball in elementary school, and she was a three-sport athlete all through high school and her first two years of college. She dropped basketball for her final two years, but stuck with softball and volleyball.
