Chicago Sisters of Mercy, Mercy Associates joined other trivia enthusiasts at Gihooley’s Grand Saloon for a “Trivia Night with the Sisters of Mercy” on March 13.

Nikki Isleb of SMARTACUS trivia was the trivia emcee for the evening. The trivia night was one of the many activities held locally and across the country during National Catholic Sisters Week, an annual national celebration designed to raise awareness of the contributions of women religious.

The team of Sisters answered the bonus question correctly and edged out the leading team for the win. The win came thanks to Sister Cathleen Cahill who knew that Boxty is a potato pancake.

“We had a ball,” said Sister Kathleen McClelland, who organized the night and was on a team of Sisters and Mercy Associates. “It was a fun way to connect with other enthusiasts in a relaxed atmosphere. There was great energy in the room as we all worked to answer the questions.”

Question themes were St. Patrick, St. Joseph and Mercy with some general knowledge of music and history.

“Not surprising, all the sisters, associates and alums of Mother McAuley High School and St. Xavier got the answers pertaining to Mercy correct,” she said.

The goal of the evening was to give opportunities for the public to connect with Sisters outside of their normal ministry settings. Gihooley’s Saloon location near Saint Xavier University was a perfect setting.

As part of the week, a video was created featuring Sisters of Mercy discussing “What Mercy Means to Me." To view the video. The Sisters of Mercy also had an Instagram takeover that featured Sisters Marissa Butler and Terry Kimingiri who shared a day in the life of a novice.
