St. John Brebeuf Spelling Bee honors Patricia Jablonski

Knights of Columbus Council #4338, which has sponsored the annual spelling bee at St. John Brebeuf School for more than 20 years, decided overwhelmingly to change the name of the event in honor of Patricia Jablonski to remember all her good works and dedication over her 60 years as an active member of the SJB Parish. This year’s winners are pictured here with Ed Jablonski; Father Przemek Tomczyk, SJB Associate Pastor; Linda Kelm; Christine Macella; Adam Taylor, Assistant Principal; Dr. Mary Maloney, Principal; and Michael Curtis from Knights of Columbus.

Students at St. John Brebeuf School learned about more than spelling when they gathered for their annual spelling bee last month. They learned about service and dedication.

“I really appreciate how the Knights of Columbus support our students, said Dr. Mary Maloney, SJB Principal. “Our students are always excited about the spelling bee. We are honored to dedicate our spelling bee to the memory of Patricia Jablonski.”

That’s because the Knights of Columbus Council #4338, which has sponsored the event for more than 20 years, decided overwhelmingly to change the name of the event in honor of

Patricia Jablonski to remember all her good works and dedication over her 60 years as an active member of St. John Brebeuf. Mrs. Jablonski was a member of St. Vincent De Paul Society, a Eucharistic Minister, and a soup kitchen volunteer among many other charitable objectives of the parish.

A friend of the Knights of Columbus where her husband, Ed, is a member, she provided many fellowship meals after the group’s general business meetings, helped with St. Patrick’s Day celebrations and was an active all around behind the scenes person according to Steve Baggio, Grand Knight. With more than 300 members, Knights of Columbus Council #4338 serves St. John Brebeuf, St. Isaac Jogues, and St. Juliana. Council Meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month at the Rev. Thomas P. May Center at 8305 N. Harlem, Niles.
