Students, adults plant pinwheels during abuse prevention service
Students from St. Ailbe School, raise their pinwheels during the service. They were joined by Annunciata School, Northside Catholic Academy, St. Therese Chinese Catholic School and St. Ignatius College Prep participated in the Archdiocese of Chicago’s 13th annual prayer service for child abuse prevention and pinwheel planting on April 25, 2024 at the Healing Garden at Holy Family Parish, 1080 W. Roosevelt Rd., Chicago. The outdoor service was led by Jesuit Father Aaron Bohr. As part of the prayer service, students, staff, parishioners and community members prayed, sung, and planted pinwheels in the Healing Garden, both symbols of child safeguarding efforts. The Healing Garden is a place dedicated to the healing, recovery and reconciliation of child abuse victims and their families and the larger Catholic Church community. Sister Norma Pimentel finds art in her ministry at the border
Sister Norma Pimentel, a religious sister of the Missionaries of Jesus, and executive director of Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley, spoke about how her artwork is inspired by her ministry with new arrivals at the border of Texas and Mexico at Holy Name Cathedral on April 15, 2024. The theme for the lecture was “Sharing the Stories of Migrants Through Art.” The Illinois Patrons of the Arts in the Vatican Museums and Holy Name Cathedral hosted the inaugural Bishop Kevin Birmingham Lecture Series. Students celebrate back-to-back championships
Students at De La Salle Institute celebrated back to back basketball championships with a pep rally at the school on April 12, 2024. For the second consecutive season, the team comprised of students from De La Salle and Southside Occupational Academy in Chicago, won the championship of the IHSA/Special Olympics of Illinois Division II Unified Basketball State Tournament held at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in March. Nurses dedicated to improving the health, wellness of priests
For advanced practice nurses Mary Kay Gawne and Cathlin Poronsky, a typical day can include everything from health presentations at meetings to unexpected trips to the emergency room. Gawne and Poronsky work out of the Vicar for Priests office, and are tasked with supporting the health of active and retired priests in the archdiocese.
