They came in cars and in trucks, wheeling in boxes and hauling bags up the stairs. They brought over-the-counter medicines, bandages, hydrogen peroxide and cotton balls. They brought flashlights and batteries, toothbrushes and toothpaste, socks and underwear. Stuffed animals and hand-drawn cards with messages of encouragement.
