175th anniversary: St. Stanislaus Kostka: Once one of the largest parishes in nation
Founded in 1867 as the first Polish parish in Chicago, the Resurrectionists have administered St. Stanislaus Kostka since 1869, and founded many other North Side Polish parishes from St. Stanislaus such as St. John Cantius and Holy Trinity Mission. At the end of the 19th century it was one of the largest parishes in the city and country.
Processions mark Fatima anniversary
It was a sight to see: More than 1,500 people processing west on Chicago Avenue as the sun set on May 13 praying the rosary, singing and carrying candles. They made their way from St. John Cantius Church, 825 N. Carpenter St., to St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, 1351 W. Evergreen Ave., in honor of the 100th anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima and to pray for peace. Karen Callaway/Chicago Catholic
Two parishes celebrate historic anniversaries
It might be difficult to find two more dissimilar parishes in the Archdiocese of Chicago than St. Stanislaus Kostka, on Noble Street at Evergreen Avenue, and Immaculate Conception in Highland Park.
