When Martha Mehringer’s son Michael told her and her husband that he wanted to enter the seminary and discern priesthood, she was worried. She also felt alone because she and her husband didn’t know anyone who had become a priest and didn’t know about the process or what her son’s life would be like as a priest.
New archives collection showcases history of Niles College
Niles College Seminary educated and formed men for the priesthood in the Archdiocese of Chicago for 33 years, from 1961 to 1994, and, during that time, witnessed great changes both in the church and in society.
Our college seminarians
Last week I traveled to St. Paul, Minnesota, to visit our college seminarians at St. John Vianney Seminary, located at the University of St. Thomas. Given the low enrollment at our St. Joseph College Seminary on the campus of Loyola, we decided to move our seminarians to St. Paul. Not only was this move more cost effective, but the seminary in St. Paul, which hosts about 100 seminarians, provided us with an opportunity to place our seminarians in a much larger community that would benefit their formation.
