Hundreds gather to honor, pray to Our Lady of Fatima
On May 13, the feast of Our Lady of Fatima, several hundred Polish Catholics gathered at Our Lady Mother of the Church Polish Mission in Willow Springs for the first of six monthly processions honoring Mary and praying for peace.
Our Lady of Fatima and a theological reading of history
On May 14 we celebrated the 100th anniversary of the first apparition of Our Lady to a group of shepherd children near the Portuguese town of Fatima. The series of Fatima appearances — lasting from May until October of 1917 — is one of the most extraordinary in the history of the church. It has also beguiled political and cultural commentators outside the ambit of the church, and it is this wider implication that I would like to explore.
Processions mark Fatima anniversary
It was a sight to see: More than 1,500 people processing west on Chicago Avenue as the sun set on May 13 praying the rosary, singing and carrying candles. They made their way from St. John Cantius Church, 825 N. Carpenter St., to St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, 1351 W.
