In commemoration of the third anniversary of the mass shooting at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas, Father Hernan Cuevas, pastor of Immaculate Conception and St. James Parish in Highland Park, joined Catholic Extension in El Paso for a prayer service for peace and healing on Aug. 10.
Highland Park parish holds listening session to help people heal
As the people of Highland Park continue to try to process and heal from the July 4 mass shooting that rocked their community, Immaculate Conception and St. James Parish held a listening session on July 26 where parishioners and the community could speak to a priest or a deacon about their experiences and have the opportunity for the priest or deacon to pray with them.

Hundreds of people gathered the evening of July 5 at Immaculate Conception Church in Highland Park to offer one another comfort and grieve together in the wake of the mass shooting that killed seven people and injured dozens more at the community’s Independence Day parade.

The day after a man climbed onto a rooftop and shot into the crowd at the Highland Park Independence Day parade, those who were there and those otherwise affected looked to their faith to help them keep going.
