Catholic community remembers slain police officer
Officer Luis M. Huesca was laid to rest with full honors April 27 after a bilingual funeral Mass celebrated by Cardinal Cupich at St. Rita of Cascia Shrine Chapel, 7740 S. Western Ave., on April 29.

On Aug. 7, members of the Chicago Police Department’s Community Safety Team stopped a vehicle for an expired license plate. Soon after, Officer Ella French, just 29 years old, was shot and killed by one of the occupants of the civilian vehicle.

Chicago Police Cmdr. Paul Bauer was raised with a strong Catholic faith. He attended St. Clare of Montefalco School in Gage Park and later St. Ignatius College Prep.
