Pope Francis names five auxiliary bishops for Archdiocese of Chicago

The Archdiocese of Chicago will receive five new auxiliary bishops in early 2025, the Vatican announced Dec. 20. Pope Francis has named Bishops-elect Timothy J. O'Malley, Lawrence J. Sullivan, José María Garcia-Maldonado, Robert M. Fedek and John S. Siemianowski, all archdiocesan priests, to assist Cardinal Cupich in the administration and pastoral care of the archdiocese.

Bishop George V. Murry, the fifth bishop of the Diocese of Youngstown, died June 5 at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York, after a two-year battle with leukemia, the diocese announced. He was 71.
