Vatican report reveals omissions in Archbishop Vigano’s ‘testimony’

Former Cardinal Theodore E. McCarrick of Washington had been told by Vatican officials to withdraw from public life because of rumors about his sexual misconduct, said Cardinal Marc Ouellet, prefect of the Congregation for Bishops. However, because they were only rumors and not proof, then-Pope Benedict XVI never imposed formal sanctions on the retired Washington prelate.
After Ireland visit, Francis’ papacy buffeted by Vigano claims
Three days after his return from Ireland, Pope Francis was holding his Wednesday General Audience in St. Peter’s Square. Toward the end, a group of students from Lucca, a Renaissance-era city in Tuscany, started chanting “Italo! Italo!” when they spotted their Archbishop Italo Castellani up at the front alongside the pope.
Vigano, Vatican spokesmen dispute facts of contested pope meeting in Washington

McCarrick, Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano provided his version of a meeting that, in the minds of many, changed the overall narrative of Pope Francis’ visit to the United States in 2015.
